hey i just got my wrx a few weeks ago and i was wondering what i should do first, so i figured where would be the best place to go to, but here... and see what you guys did first... so what was everyones first mod (which i can tell from the list of things that some of you guys have, that it may not be real easy to remember that far back, lol) that you did to your cars?... it will probably be at least two weeks before i will be able to do my first $200 (or so) mod, but i was wondering what i should get? turbo timer? or something of the like that will keep my car from getting destroyed (from all the "vigorous" driving that i cant help myself from...lol).

Turbo Timer is not really needed, If you get one and ever post on Nasioc, prepare to be flamed.

Most of us on hear would probably say first mods were up/downpipe which will cost more than $200, or Engine Management., which will also be more than 200.

Save your money for now, wait till you have around 600 to spend and then decide your mod route.

Up/downpipe would probably be the best starting point, it will make a noticeable difference with power, turbo sound, and spool up.

    up-pipe and downpipe.

Just wait until you have money for both and then some of us on here can help install if needed.

    AdvanceREX,

I did springs, wheels and tires first, but that'll cost you more than $200. Then I went on to power mods. I'd keep saving up and go either suspension route or power first...before you get to crazy with mods, I'd highly recommend a good driving school, like <shameless-plug>Scott Siegel's SRDIC</shameless-plug>, where you can learn the true capabilities of yourself and your car. Go up to SOG and visit Scott Siegel, have a chat and you'll walk out of there with something! :D

Good luck with the car. See ya around!

up-pipe is a good mod for ur budget... if u are not strict on the $200 budget, i guess it depends on what ur looking to get outa ur car... if u want it to sound good, go with a catback... for more punch, up-pipe, downpipe, engine management... better tires would not be a bad idea if ur still on the stock re92s

I'd save up some mo cash and get wheels/tires....Stockers look and handle like poop...
Besides, you really should have some fun with the car as is(power wise), its allready fast as hell from the factory.

Not sure if anyone posted this yet or not, but the snorkus removal is free and would get you a nice sound if nothing else. You could also do the Kartboy short shifter and bushings with that much, plus a new shift knob. You could also do both sway bars if you wait for a good deal on NASIOC or ebay. New tires could be nice, but $200 probably won't get you there. I got a STI axleback for $125 from someone off here, but its mostly just for looks, the sound didn't really change and it won't make a difference in performance until I do the DP/UP (if then). You could paint your side skirts or get a couple gauges....$200 really does give you a ton of options....

    thanx for the help

thanx for the input guys, and if i do go with the UP and/or DP then i would greatly appreciate any and all help, but what brand do you guys suggest/have on your cars? or does it make any difference when it comes down to it... although the racing place (siegel) sounds like it might be a greater plan for me now (this car is my first stick, so i definently could use that)... i dont think i need tires right now, when i got it, the car already had some new (maybe around 200 miles on em) toyo proxes...

to be honest i dont think i need speed mods right now, maybe after a couple of months, but not at this exact time... i might tackle the snorkus thing this weekend... i got some caliper paint for all four wheels for about 2 bucks at work the other day... items that go on clearance are even better with employee discounts;) ... lol...

and on engine management... what kind of items would be best for protecting (for a lack of a better word) my engine from my somewhat bad skills with driving (as of right now, i am determined to get better over time...)

for engine management i STRONGLY recommend ECUTEK... i have ECUTEK and scott siegel at subaru of gwinnett does all my tuning work... ive been really happy with it

up-pipes and downpipes may be different from different manufacturers...

the different styles of downpipes available are flat plate, bell mouth and divorced wastegate... i believe theres a 4th type but i cant remember... most people go with the bell mouth or the divorced waste gate for better flow... u also have the choice of catted or catless... from what i hear, the cat wont make u lose much power (maybe 2-4 hp)... so i'd recommend u go with a cat but it will be more expensive than catless... u also could get the 2 piece which has separate downpipe and midpipe sections or a single piece that combines the 2... i have the helix catted downpipe... its a 1 piece bellmouth and ive been real happy with it...

as far as up-pipe, go with something that has a flex joint in it... it will make the fitment easier and stuff wont break...i have the PDE flex up-pipe

    Goals

You need to seriously sit down and establish what your goals are. Because everything you buy now will have an effect on performance later. Ecutek is a great way to go for a moderate power daily driver, however if you plan on making big power or if you plan on going racing, then you might want to consider AEM. The AEM takes more work as far as driveability goes, but ultimately you will have a much better car. You should not under any circumstance buy a UTEC, its nothing but problems.
