Wondering what all everybody is using in their transmissions?

I'm sure I just have the OEM stuff, and will probably keep it for another month or so while I'm still learning, but I've heard a lot of stuff about aftermarket oils. Right now I'm having no problems getting the car into any gear (1st is iffy from a roll though), so maybe I should just stick with the oil.

    Discuss.

On nasioc search under "Uncle Scotty"s name and search for "cocktail." Everyone has been really pleased with his and I will be trying it when I change my tranny fluid.

actually i just did that mix in my tranny. before i couldnt shift into 1st until a complete stopand i mean complete, you can ask smoothcriminal.i couldnt hardly even double clutch most of the time. its been in for about 1200 miles now from a couple trips. right after used it, it was like driving a whole new car. if i want to i can shift into first while just pushing the clutch in all the way up until about 30mph. its awesome and i give it a 10++. you just drain your tranny fluid and the mix i used was
    1 qt redline lightweight shockproof
1 qt pennzoil syncromesh (or gm synchromesh)
fill rest with castrol hypoid c 75w90 if you can find it or 80w90 if you cant

castrol and pennzoil can be found at autozone and a performance shop should have some redline.

So far the only local place I've found w/ the light shockproof is:

    Mustangs Unlimited - Lawrenceville, GA 30043 (770) 446-1965

    9.95/ qt + tax

Summit has for 7.95, but they have an 8.95 handling charge becasue its a hazardous material. May be able to get a case and split it and save some $$. I'd take 2-3 qts. I jsut called Summit and its 104.35 for a case shipped (~$8.70/qt)

is there a benefit to this cocktail over using just readline gear oil? i always get a little leary when mixing multiple fluids (or rather the additives in the fluids).

i'm coming up on 30k, i don't have any 1st gear shift problems (though i rev match everything, guess that helps)... but i definetly want to go with synthetic in the tranny.

If you do use straight redline, do not use the light weight shockproof, you should use Heavy I believe.

right, the 75w90 gear oil. oh, btw in case anyone is interested, i'm thinking of trying one of these: http://www.redlineoil.com/team_gear.asp

there's a wrx/sti pack down the page. the price seems reasonable.

Would this help with the cold winters here in ohio (for school) to make shifting easier when the tranny is cold? The first few shifts are always interesting (read double clutch to downshift at all) and I woulnd't mind trying something new if it might help.

I have used synchomesh before, and it was ok, however now went back to OEM with the clutch change and its much better. I hear synchomesh will help in the WRX tranny, but not so much in the 6-speed.

Anyone had problems with this?? I have a bigtime grind problem into 1st unless under 5 or 10mph. I am very interested in this cocktail but id like to hear from more people using it. I have straight redline now and it blows!

The first grind is the main problem, i just hate being paranoid about it everytime i have to slow down. If that cocktail can solve that problem it would be wonderful!!!

Just did the cocktail fellas! Its a huge improvement! I can get it into gear anywhere under 20mph w/no problem at all. I recommend this to anyone who gets the grind into first gear!! :bigthumb:

I think I had Amsoil Synthetic ATF in mine. Anything synthetic works best in the autos since it keeps operating temps down.
