Is there anyone local that can do head work on Suby's? Looking to maybe get some port/polish, new valves, springs, etc.....Just curious if there is anyone reputable locally that can do it.
I already asked and got no response a couple of months ago. I think I may have some heads that need work too
I remember back in the Honda days there use to be a guy in Conyers that did head work. He worked at the Honda Dealership in Conyers but I can't remember his name. Oh well, if I find anything I will post up in here.
We will be having Lucy's heads laser-scanned TODAY. We will be having them CNC'd starting tomorrow. So far we had the same guy do the hand-porting on all our RR1 motors. That guy's not really available, so we will be using a shop that's been doing heads for nearly 30 years. We'll post up what the CNC'd heads will cost, and it should be quite reasonable. Siegel

If Lucy is running so well and all why are you guys tearing her down? Just to R&D the longevity of the engine?
We've had a number of customers request TopSpeed RR1's, we have two to build right now. We are VERY happy with our current headwork, but the guy who was hand-porting all of our heads is no longer available. So... our best option is to have the heads laser-scanned and then CNC'd. Once they're scanned and the CNC program is made, we'll be able to turn cores into TSRR1 heads with a one or two day turn-around at a very reasonable price. Siegel
Ah I misunderstood what you said. When you said CNC'd I interpreted that as Lucy was having additional work done but it's simply to get the 'data' needed so stock heads can be CNC'd. Nice.
I obviously use my Uncles shop for all my work, he is the one that ported the heads on the motor that made 550whp on pump. Ball Engines in Lilburn, ask for David and tell him I sent you he will take care of you. I spoke to two shops about doing cnc porting on Subaru castings and they both warned about casting shift, they said its a big problem on Subaru heads, Just a heads up if your guy isn't familar with the Subaru Stuff.
Correct me if I am wrong, but casting shift is where heads/block can vary in the thickness of material due to sand shifting in the casting process right?
