I left Atlanta and temporarily moved to Chicago. Left Sunday morning, stayed in Indiana that night, then arrived to Chicago Monday night. My stage 2 STi made the trip just great. Average anywhere between 22 - 26 mpg. I'm currently in Shaumburg. I'm hoping the really cold weather doesnt affect anything (mechanically) on my car. I've seen a local sti and evo rolling around but not sure if there's a subi/import shop around. If any of you guys recommend something for my car, for the cold, please let me know. Still reppin' the falcons/hawks/ & owls (KSU).
my godparents live in barrington (west of downtown chicago). i personally love chicago, probably my favorite 'big city'. just be prepared for a winter unlike you've ever seen (assuming you've lived in the south all your life). you know that when a good percentage of the native population leave for the winter, its probably not a fun thing to endure, especially for those not acclimated. other than that, the summers are awesome and downtown is kikass with great food, cool shops, and awesome scenery
I grew up in NJ and saw my share of snow to be sure. I never understood the need for a trenchcoat until I had a business trip in January, interestingly to Schaumberg- LOL. Our sales office just moved from Schaumberg to Lincolnshire. I know you better behave- Schaumberg police are no joke and write lots and lots of speeding tickets. Chicago is a great town, but the winter is a deal breaker for me.
Riding on the highway, i noticed one side of my hood scoop was flexing more than usual. When I checked it out, one of the washers for the inner screw was missing when i popped the hood. Anyone know if this is a special washer, or if it can be found anywhere else besides a subaru delearship?
You would think that, but chains are still enforced during the winter time in a lot of the pacific northwest I just am not sure how it works on the east coast. Just take said washer to home depot or Ace and find a match. If you want to go the OEM route, check out this diagram. Snowed here all last night and today. 5-8 inches and i loved it. What sucks is that they're use to it up here in chicago so work still goes on.
Just found out my uncle's friend owns a garage up here so i dont have to worry about buying a jack or tools. I plan on changing my oil this coming week with royal purple 5w-30. I know i should try a different oil for the cold weather, but i have a case of royal purple, so I'm sticking with it
It shouldn't be too bad. I'm not sure what weight you'd want to change to but 5w30 has a huge ambient temp operating range.
As of lately, i've been hearing a knocking sound coming from the driver's side fender. With the weather being so cold and shitty i havent had time to crawl under the car or take my wheel off to inspect. I dont think and im hoping its nothing major. Its the only issue ive had since owning the car. It may be cv boot, cv axle, or something with the spring, not sure yet. I have a '05 model and was wondering if this may be a common problem or not?
Also, if anyone can post some type of the front suspension, cv axle, tie rod, etc. diagram, that will definitely help me out
I just looked under my car, and it seems the driver side endlink from the swaybar is loose, but not completely off. Even if it's loose, would it still be making that knocking sound? I couldn't or didn't see anything else that would be an issue.
If the sway bar is moving then yeah you might hear some knocking. If the endlink is bad, you may hear some popping from that bushing.
Hey Nick! I hope you are enjoying that cold weather up there. I have been through quite a few of their winters. Better you than me! If you have aftermarket FSB check that your bushings are lubricated and moving freely. I had a clunking noise and it truned out to be the FSB bushings were dry. Michael
Yeah, when i take care of the endlink, ill check to see if anything needs some lubrication too. Since i have no tools yet, i have to take it to a garage shop (which i hate doing). How do you tell if the swaybars need any maintenance?
I havent experienced this much snow is my life. Took the Bimmer X5 out today with my cousins on the way to go sledding. Fun ride. My Sti was parked at the other house's garage the last couple days so it wouldn't be covered with snow. Cant wait to take it to work tomorrow in the snow.
