I have a 03 WRX, 90k. The car just started making an awful loud whining noise a couple days ago. Did some looking around and saw some vids on youtube and read some things all seem to point at the front diff. Anyone have experience with this and what options do i have ? Would i need to replace the entire trans ? How difficult is it to replace the diff assembly/cost ? Would i be better off going to a Subaru dealership or another transmission shop ? I will bring it in and have it looked at but just trying to get some info. I have to keep the cost down and get it fixed quick , i don't have another ride. How long could i drive it like it is, will it explode :eek:hnoes: ?

Sent you a pm, but there could be many different things causing the whine. Andy can probably listen to it while you drive it around the block and let you know. He is the transmission GURU!

Take it to kingwrec at sok and let him put it on the rack in gear with stethoscope to diagnose it

Hard to say what caused it. I'm nice to the trans, i have never launched it really hard. The trans itself is shifting fine. Going to change the oil in the trans this weekend before i bring it anywhere, want to see if there is any metal chunks stuck to the plug. It would be bad if it locked up. I'll bring it by that Sargent Power place first to see what he thinks since he is close by where i work. I have it put up for now, got the little bros sunfire.
