I recently got my full exhaust done on my 04 legacy and was waiting for the muffler to break in to take a video/ soundclip of it...On my way to snowboarding last weekend I heard a really loud noise coming from the exhaust. I pulled over to a Midas and they said the Head was stripped out where the header meets it. I went back to the guy who installed it and he wont fix it and said he wasnt liable for it. None of the muffler/exhaust shop up in N.GA wont even touch my car now...What are my options...Ive heard I would need to pull the whole motor just to get it fixed...and that would cost as much as getting a new 2.5 n/a....or swapping for a more powerful motor...Batlground and Mainstream were two shops I have been given the names of but warned they would be very expensive....If you have any advice I need it cause I dont want to run to far on my car of fears of bending a valve.

Is it just one of the bolts from the header to the block that is stripped? That shouldnt be a hard fix but I would leave it up to a mechanic. They'll just have to retap the hole and throw a slightly larger bolt in it.

I agree if it is just the hole in the head, you still should be able to just tap it. It is not much fun, but it can be done without pulling he motor I would think. I would take it to another shop, have them fix it, then take the original shop to small claims court with a letter from which ever mechanic fixed it saying that it was a direct result of the the first shop's work.

    Sounds like they either:
    A. Overtightened it stripping the head.
    B. misaligned the threads and just drove it on up in there stripping it out as they went.

Swapping a motor because a bolt is stripped out is kind of extreme. But I like the way you think.

Sounds like the way I explain things to my wife when I want a new part
