I just bought an 07 sti and want to get rid of some of that 4X4 look, can I get away with just lowering springs for now to save some money? Im only looking for like an inch (in the front atleast) and my budget right now wont support coilovers or anything like that.

Yes, you should be able to run just some replacement springs without much issue. If you drive the car really hard, it could cause the struts to bottom out which will end their life eventually though.
There are only about 2,635,756 opinions on what springs are best so just get what you want.

yeah springs are a great choice and depending on the drop they provide won't cause too much of an issue with strut life. but after you get them start saving for coilovers, it'll only be a matter of time before you want the hotness!!!

    Prodrive spings FTW.

    The teins are super-dope low.

I would wait and do it right.

Don't you have to shim the rear axle to offset pinion angle or is that just with trucks?

Unless you are going to be adjusting you suspension there is no reason for coilovers IMO... a decent set of springs are plenty good for spirited daily driving.
