So I don't know if you guys remember my little situation with the tranny from last week... Anyway, long story short, SoG told me that first gear is shot and that it's gonna cost over $2700 to fix. I should know in the next couple of days if the aftermarket warranty I bought through the Ford dealer is going to cover it or not, but I'm not holding my breath for good ole' Ford ESP to come to my rescue. If this is the case, it seems like it's going to be cheaper to just buy a completely new gearset and put it in myself. I've never done this before, but I have plenty of time to figure it out and my 240 to drive around in the meantime. Any opinions on the feasability of this, or suggestions for other options such as the possibility of repairing only whats damaged in the current tranny? I was looking at some of the gearsets here. weapon said changing the gears is not too bad... however if the gear is broken, u might have to worry about what other damage may have been caused
yea..the RA gear set is a pretty popular drop in..i will be doing it sometime in the future..you can use your current tranny casing and syncros ( as long as none were damaged from you breaking gears)..the ra gears are drop in so nothing else is required..again as long as nothing else is broken internally
Freakin' $2700. :eek3: Looks like you can get a 'built' one from Gruppe-S for $2300 if you don't want to tear into things yourself.
Yeah I'm considering that as well. If it's going to be too complex to replace bearings and snychros myself PROPERLY then I might go with the fully built ready to drop in tranny. Last thing I want is to have to buy a third transmission because I was an idiot.
Gearsets I just sent my gearbox off to www.gearboxtech.com. Call and talk to andrew, he is sponsoring my car for the upcoming season. He does PPG gearsets, for the kind of money you are talking about you can put the straight cut 1-2 gears in it, then you shouldnt have any thing to worry about. Matt

Here is what I think the price is you will have to confirm this with Andrew 1800 for first and second gear, 300 for the shift fork, 700 for labor. Tell him that Matt from Atlanta told you about him and maybe he will hook you up.
