New shift knob

    I'm tired of gripping stock leather, anything not to incredibly pricey maybe some metal, doesnt have to be a short shifter just looking for ideas or what you have and enjoy

    Just to let you know, shift knob != short shifter. They are two different parts.



    That being said, check into wc lathewerks. You can get their knobs through 10th st jdm here on the site!

    Definitely check out the WC Lathewerks knobs. I own 3 and they are sweet.

    I want the 6MT version. Sadly, I have only found it on Japanparts.com and it costs a fortune.

    Bummer. I actually really like the stock shift knob for the 6 speed. The stock 5 speed is just hella lame from the factory.

    Just curious, when buying an aftermarket knob for the 6 speed, is the reverse ring part of the knob assembly, or do you just maintain the stock ring when getting a new knob?

    I have not looked that much into it. I will decide if I really want to change it after I have had the car for a few months.

    its very easy to convert any knob to a 6 speed knob
    ive custom a couple plus added weight

    maybe im an idiot but knobs just screw on? lol how can it be for a six speed besides showing the six gears on it.

    The 6 speed transmissions have a ring for reverse underneath the knob itself. Thus, on the 6 speed shift knobs, there isn't the little collar for your shift boot. You can kind of see this difference in the picture of the Cobb shift knobs posted in this thread. I don't know for sure that this is the reason that they are not directly compatible (I haven't spent much time inside an STI), but it's my best guess.

    It's really a moot point though, because I'm pretty sure 10th Street JDM/Alex is a Lathe Works supplier, so he can get you the 5 speed if that's the knob you want.

    Edit: Yeah just for reference and my own curiosity, this is a picture of the STI shift knob assembly.

    See how the shift boot attaches a couple of inches below the actual knob? On the 5 speed the knob itself has the collar tht the boot attaches to.

    I realize that this isn't the stock shift knob, but it's the first good pic I found of the 5 speed (coincidentally it is the Subaru Momo knob :))

    im interested in the aluminum, Copolymer, and heavy weight steel pistons. Not sure which i want yet, any opinions on any of those?

    I have an aluminum (Prodrive) knob, and the 2.25" WC Lathewerks copolymer ball.

    I love the copolymer, but if I get a new knob, it will be the extra heavy knob that Latheworks has out right now

    The WRX shift knobs have an extra piece on them to allow the boot to "snap" on. It is a crappy design that the 6 speed does not, fortunately, suffer from.

    Note the collar.

    awhile ago i showed a way to convert the 6 speed to a 5 speed sknob and added weight and boot holder
    .
    im sure someone knows where it went

    Maybe im searching wrong but i dont see shift knobs offered on the website, also one more noob question, i was fooling with the shift boot and was wondering how i take the knob out of the boot ahah. seems like it was in there pretty good.

    Will sell you a titanium sti knob for a reasonable price..The one that fits the wrx 5-spd..

    well reasonable price for a sti shift knob is like 95, and im considering a 75 knob. My budget is kind of low. lol. And i tried to twist it off for like 10 minutes, even called some people, its really on there.

    Who the hell wants a shift knob that is attached to their shift boot! :) Even though this is a pretty common setup...

    This is my preferable though (similar to STi setup).

    Got the 1 pound ball from wc lathe for christmas. It is fantastic and matches the trim great when you get gun metal. Although i don't think are all the cheap.

    I got a sparco shift knob, ordered from Road Atlanta Pro shop( convenient for me b/c my house is 5mins from track ). I like it ok. It looks alot like the momo knob pictured in this thread.

    I have the Razo 400g shift knob on mine. It sounds minor, but I like the feel and how it basically throws itself into gear with little effort.

    This is what was on my car, and I loved it. No need for gloves in the winter because the shift knob was 20 below 0, or 350 degrees in summer. It also shortened the height about 1/2" from stock 6 speed height. :bigthumb:
