So i just picked up a JIC Magic Ti axleback and it looks like the flange section that meets up to the resonator part tapers to 2.5in....I currently have a full 3in catback from Random tech...so I'm not gonna be able to switch out axleback peices correct?

you can always get a 3" flange welded on.

Wow I had an entire dual exhaust system with an h pipe made for my 63 nova for $120...given it was not stainless, but just to weld a flange....$75-$100?

You could just mate them up and see if they fit regardless. Odds are the flanges will still mate, you'll just have the 3" to 2.5" at the axel.

Yep it might actually fit. Unless they had to reflange it

I usually go to private individuals when possible. This person that I used was based out of Stone mtn and did an incredible job. I had a similar exhaust made for a Honda at a shop for $85, but only one side.

yeah for some wierd reason it goes back to 3in after the bend at the flange...so you think I could possibly get these to mate-up without leaks?

oh so this is kinda common then....you think there'd be any performance disadvantages to doing it this way?

Considering that you're going from a 3inch downpipe to a 2.5 inch catback it might restrict the system a bit....but it will be less noisy

well the weird thing is the axel back is 3in but the flange tapers to 2.5 where it connects to the rest of the catless back...:wiggle:

you really won't see any performance decrease in going from a 3" to a 2.5".
Especially that far back in the exhaust system. (some stuff I've read make it seem like you may actually pick up some power...)

Main thing to worry about is leaking.

my random tech 3in axle back peice?.....it depends on how it sounds...i might be switching back and selling the JIC..depending on noise level....unfortunately either way I won't have the whole cat-back to sell off...

    Here's what he will do.

Step 1: Cut the 2.5" piece off the exhaust.
Step 2: Weld 3" peice and flange back on.
Step 3: Give it back to you.

not sure if it's worth it at this point or not...I guess I could get a quote from a muffler shop....but I kinda just want to cut my losses...I mean I already have a full 3in system, just wanted to try something different...

edit: I talked to him and he was saying that maybe it was off his RS wagon and not the wrx....are they that different?

    He said "maybe"? lol

Yes they are that different. I'll tell you what. I'll trade you my Greddy Evo2 axleback (it will fit assuming you got it reflanged) for the JIC.
