I would just check the same things you would for any car before taking a trip. Inspect the tires and check pressure, check the oil level and look for drips (kinda hard with the plastic cover on the underbody though), drive around the block for a few minutes before heading for home and watch out for any hesitation, slipping clutch, "missing", etc. If the purchase is in GA, you might want to do a reallllly thorough test drive as once you've bought it in this state, whether you discover issues the same day or not, you pretty much own it.
