CHICAGO (Reuters) - McDonald's Corp. on Tuesday said it will dispose of its remaining stake in Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. by the end of October, and posted quarterly profit in line with the preliminary figures it gave last week.

McDonald's, the world's largest restaurant chain, said it plans a tax-free exchange of Chipotle shares for McDonald's stock, and will file a registration statement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in the coming weeks.

But...what does that mean for the local franchises? They simply become independent right?

Chipotle is too popular (I hope!) to go away. Besides, what are SS and WJM going to eat after a long day of tuning?

this was announced back in april, just means Mcdonalds is dumping the rest of its ownership.. I doubt this will have any impact on the chains.

Mickey D's only owned a portion of Chipotle's. Far as I know, Chipotle's is doing quite well financially. Matter of fact, they have a p/e of 30 and pulling in $1.56/share with sales growing SUBSTANTIALLY year over year.

It's not like Subaru went bye-bye when GM dumped their 20% stake.

Maybe GM should buy a stake of Chipotle.
