Hey guys, Im looking to get an exhaust. I would like to spend as little as possibe aka (a used exhaust). I was thinking about buying a stock 04 05 STI exhaust. My questions are

    1. would u guys recomend this?

    2. How much louder are these compaired to a stock 02 wrx exhaust

    3. do i need just the axlecack or does the STI center pipe make a differance

    Thanks
    -Clayton

i would definately recomend this since i have one myself. its a whole bunch louder but its noticeable. the ceter pipe will help a little bit since its 2.5 instead of 2.25 but not much. with a gutted UP and a STI cat-back i ran 204/211 to the wheels so i say its a pretty good investment.

it just so happens that Alex is selling a STi axel back if you are interested.

not worth it..you probably wont see much if any improvement over stock..go with an after market..i have an invidia turboback and like it a lot..here is a downpipe i found on ebay.. here your bottlenecks are your up pipe and your downpipe..get those outta the way and you will notice a big difference

The STi muffler is straight through, hard to beat that. Plus you get to have the cute litle STi tip t:) It wont be loud, it wont make people's ear drums bleed. But its classy, cheap and gets the job done. These were Alex's and I's thoughts. We could tell a difference with the gutted up-pipe and the sti axelback. I'm not trying to sell anything here, just throwing out my 2 cents...

But if you're interested, as Alex said, I have one for sale. Send me a PM if you're interested.

i'm with kris on that. but from what i understand gutted uppipes improve turbo spool, and is the best cheap upgrade u can do.

the absolute power gains won't be much with a gutted uppipe and STi axel back... however u will notice quicker turbo spool because of the uppipe... not only should the boost come on earlier but it should rise to peak faster... butt dyno will be happy for sure ;)

i would gut the uppipe and buy a downpipe...that outta net you some noticable gains..like i said about alex's car..with just a gutpipe and an sti axelback i would not expect more than 180-190 at the wheels..thats why i think he has some sort of engine management

Yeah, either Alex has a serious factory freak, or something else is going on. I remember when we pulled it apart for the UP install the bolts were all nice and loose, so I bet it had been put back to stock fairly recently.

I always thought that WRXs with UP/DP got around 200whp and then tuning would bring that right on up to 230 or so.

when I had my wrx I made 215/218 with UP, TBE, CAI, STI TMIC.

My first mod was an STI axleback and it was a noticable gain. Noise level changed very little
