So a slightly stiffer suspension (which still isn't up to par to a normal suspension upgrade) with no power increases and reduced luxury? Is the price dropped much? If not I don't see this selling.

Pricing is supposed to be announced next month. For all intents and purposes it's a watered-down Spec C... I'm interested to see if Subaru is using this as a feeler to gauge reaction to a Spec C in the US, and if so, what their plans are for it down the line.

That's exactly what I thought when I read it on autoblog.

Thats stupid unless its significantly cheaper. I doubt its going to be much lighter and the owners, even though it says special edition are going to have to live with the fact they basically have a base model sti.

If they want to bring a spec c here they should just do it rather than wasting peoduction on this SE model.

I can't see how they would price a "Special Edition" STI for less than a "normal" model. I agree that if Subaru wants to test the reaction to a Spec C, then they should send the real thing.

I would have thought that a "SE" would have all of the features that this one is excluding...and more.

Ugh... really not seeing the point... It better be way cheaper, but I doubt it. Look what dealers were trying to charge for the 07 Limited.

i like the idea. but put forged pistons in it, fix the ring land problem .. then we'll talk..

i cannot see paying 35 to 40k for car that if tuned up a bit has what apparently is a pretty good chance of destroying the engine.

i like the idea of stripper cars though.. if i could have bought a no-frills corvette there would be one sitting in my driveway right now.

most luxury i need is air, the interior can be functional plastic.. heck i'm even willing to roll down my own windows. a simple am-fm radio which i can upgrade if i want (but wont since about all i listen to is talk radio). i'll pay for performance and you can keep toe gee-gaws.... thanks.

If you weigh more than 175 lbs good luck fitting in an Elise or Exige. I am 5'10" and 190 lbs and both were insanely tight and uncomfortable for me.

Also they are going to be doing the 2010 WRX SE which willl actually have a few real upgrades, leather, sunroof, & climate control! That's all I know so far.. so if any of you are in the market for that 2010 WRX hold out for the SE! and as for the STi "Spec C" I think it's a serious mistake, there's nothing really special about it, you're looking at $32,995 + $695 DD

Meh, I still like it... better suspension and wheels for $2000 less than the regular STi? And $4000 less than a BBS-optioned STi. Sounds like a plan to me, the only thing I'd miss even a little bit would be the HID lights. Is it a true Spec C? Of course not. Is it a little more performance for a little less cash? Nothing really drastic, but absolutely. If I had the money for a regular STi I'd put a deposit on this instead, no question...
