    "Japanese carmaker Subaru has won its first-ever IEOTY trophy in the 2.0-liter to 2.5-liter class with the new 2.5-liter turbo that powers the 2006 Impreza WRX, among others.

    Subaru's excellent turbocharged "flat-four" or "boxer" engine narrowly edged out a multiple winner in this category: BMW's ever-improving 2.5-liter inline six-cylinder engine. Their respective scores were 155 and 153 points. "
