That's the one thing that makes it unattractive. The possibility of it draining your oil by itself.

been on every car i owned 10+ years never had one failed.

Get the one with the nipple for attaching a drain line - straight into drain pan or if you want to sample your oil in between changes.

p.s. if you are concerned just put a cap on it so the lever cant turn

it's a turbo Subaru, I thought you only add oil and just change the filter.

I personally wouldn't use it. I had one and road debris almost pushed it open. Maybe if they've changed the design but that looks exactly like the one I had.

I've got one, it looks like the one in the pic too. Though the lever does sit in a 'notch' of sorts to act as a sort of lock for the lever. However, at road speeds, I wouldn't be surprised if debris could knock it open.

I've not had a problem with it, but I also still use the oem plastic cover so I guess it helps a little bit.

I have used a Fumoto on my last 3 cars. It is FANTASTIC. Tool less oil change if you dont run your engine tray. Once you buy one and understand how the valve works, it would be extremely difficult for road debris to cause the valve to open. It does not open easily.

I have been using one on my Mini Van for the last 5 years without a problem and it is exposed to road debris. I wouldn't hesitate to put one on any of my cars.

If you install it 'properly' you shouldn't have to worry about road debris.

Had one on my STI for 4 years with no problems.... Saves so much time, makes oil changes a breeze... If you can get one to open from road debris, I question your route choices. What the hell could you run over that would possibly open that valve? I guess if you rally race or something.
