aite, i just got a quote from gran turismo east that a set of Falken RT615s will be 639.40 (w/ tire balancing, etc) but excluding alignment. however, i have found a set of the exact same tires at vulcantires.com for 485.00 (including shipping). SO, my question is, how much will it cost to get the tires mounted and balanced at someplace else other than GTE so that the overall price will be cheaper than 639.40, or is it even worth ordering the tires online?

and yea, PLEASE let me know if you guys know a place that is cheap/good at balancing/mounting tires! thanks!

If you go somewhere else you will find them cheaper, But if you go to GTE your car will be done right the first time. So I would say spend the extra money and have your car perfect. GTE for the win.

I'm a cheap ass... Walmart will mount/balance your tires for $3 each. hahaha... i think they tack on the waste fees so it comes to $5 each.

I normally get them mounted and balanced for 8-10/tire + 2 for disposal of tires unless you know of a good dumpster (not recommended). There isn't anything special to mounting and balancing tires IMHO. I got my set of Falken Ziex's for 300 something on vulcantires.com. I only needed an all season because I have R comps devoted to racing. There was no point in buying a 280 treadware tire.

The customer service alone from GTE makes it well worth the extra price.

Call them back. I got tires from them 2 weeks ago. Quoted the same price for 615s, but price included front end alignment.

go with the trusted place. I made a similar mistake a few weeks ago. Figured getting the tires balanced would be no big deal so I went to a shop I'd gone to before. Didn't get it quite right and so I ended up at SOG where it got done right along with other things.

There you go, KA04 FTW! I was quoted a while back for RT615s 225/45/17 for $560 mounted and balanced (not aligned) by Dekalb Tires in Roswell.

GTE is great. Great guys, great service...
Sometimes they are really busy. 1/4 mile down the street Velocity is just as good.
They mounted and balanced mine :p

The few times I've gone to a discount tire has made me never want to go back; apparently the locations I have visited don't know what race tires look like yet claim to service scca members; on top of that they spent 4 hours mounting 4 tires....

Sorry for your bad experience! That type of thing is usually unheard of. The longest we usually take on a vehicle is 1:30 (total wait) due to being busy. I personally used to deal with Chin Motorsports until i got moved to my new location. We would swap tires for them all the time. Next time you need a swap on tires please come see me and ill make sure you get taken care of!

GTE treats me really well... no reason to go anywhere else... however if I'm desperate on a Saturday I'll let you know.
