I have a Utec, its great i like it a whole lot, the power is incredible but to be honest im kinda scared of the thing. To me i break down the Utec like this; its a professional device for serious professional tuners looking for the absolute most out of their vehicles. Do i want that YES, but im no tuning genius, NO, i cant hook up my computer (i have a Mac) to the Utec and tweak settings/street tune it. though the tune on there right now has safety features on it and protects the motor i still dont know. So what im looking for is this, should i just pull it off and get an access port? they are so user friendly and easy to use, and to my knowledge a lot safer. what should i do. go........

Even with street tuner its not hard to kill your motor.

my old sti had a utec. Everyone always told me how much it sucked and to ditch it for an AP. I ended up getting rid of it though, but got protuned with openecu. I know that the utec is expensive, and you cant sell it for crap lol.

you will probably find mixed emotions about Utec. I had bad experiences with it so I would ditch it for an Access Port.

    Get the AP version 2.

UTECs are 'good' when they work. 'good' is a relative term.

I had a DELTA system apparently tuned as well as it could be, and switched it for an AP running a crappy Cobb OTS map and it's dramatically better.

So, a tuned UTEC < untuned AP...

I simply pulled my Delta system out and all was well. I don't know about the regular UTEC though. Flashed a OTS map and works well enough. I'm saving for a Protune though... ASAP.

Will a stock map for a WRX be able to control a VF34 without it running like ass?

If you have stock injectors and a near stock maf, you can run just the stock ECU. If you have non-stock injectors you really shouldn't run stock ecu...
