Hey all. I've been thinking of putting a VF39 on my WRX and going with an EWG setup. I been doing some research and it looks like that setup does pretty well. I found a thread on here from back in 09 and there was a lot of talk about people on here doing it. Did you guys ever end up doing it? If so, what numbers did you put down and how did you like it?

you may get to 300hp with that setup. I think I made 292 with that setup with internal WG.

Ya, most people were around 300hp 330tq with that setup. I'm not looking for big numbers so it looks like it could work. I've seen some freaks hit 330hp with like 380ish tq. I'm not looking to bomb my transmission just yet. lol

on my old hybrid (2.5 bottom and 2.0 heads), with a VF39 it made 292/343 or something like that. internally gated. i wouldn't expect a whole lot more power with an external gate, but the torque would move a little more to the left and it should be a smoother acceleration.

    won't see those #'s on a 2.0l. I barely made 350 spraying meth at 26lbs

I have a 2.5 so I should be around 300. I read a few posts where people were holding 19psi until redline with their egw vf39. I thought the problems with the VF series is that they didn't hold boost the whole power band.

that was due to leaky internal wastegates. so lots of people chose to weld them shut and due external gates for this reason. my old VF39 probably had 175k on it, and no cracks.

I saw that gs makes a bracket for the VF series. Seems like a good option when it comes time to sell it. Not everyone wants one with a flapper welded shut.

Anyone here do it on a 2.5?

I think the better option would be a vf48.

Im on a 2.5 hybrid and previously ran a vf43 which put down 302/314. When I changed to a 48 w/ewg my car put down 326/364. I found the 48 to be more responsive in the top end.

I used the gs bracket as well, IMO it is a better option than welding the wg especially when you upgrade and resell the VF.

Also, what ewg setup are you running 38 or 44? CNT, GS, UR or custom?

After a little more research on the VF48 it looks like an FP HTA68 would be just as good or a little better. Plus they go for about the same price used. Anyone on here running one on a 2.5?

Hey, I am actually thinking of doing the same thing.. is there any other mods that would be necessary to go along with this setup on a stock wrx? ie a bigger tmic new head gasket ect..

I've always read injectors when moving a wrx to an STI turbo, but doesn't the 06-07 wrx have the same injectors as an STI?
