Washing car during drought?

Down here in Henry county we are allowed to water our lawns in the mornings on certain days. I just park on the the lawn and wash my car.

I use the wash it yourself places all the time. For $5 worth of quarters you can do a pretty good job and if there is shade nearby you can move your car and dry it just like at home.

 

^At the wash yourself places its a good idea to bring your own sponge and towels and just use the pressure washer for your car. The brushes at those places tend to have rocks and stuff that will scratch your car.

 

Subaru's are supposed to be dirty. Stop trying to make your car look pretty. Go hit some mud puddles, or wait for it to rain and get in your bathing suit.

 

There is a pretty decent touch less car wash near my house I've been using. It costs $7 but does a really nice job.

 

I just wait for it to rain. Drive around the block to get the car wet, soap it in the garage, and drive around the block to wash it off. Back into the garage for the rest.

 

Ditto on the wash it your self place. It tends to cost me about 2 dollars. I bring my own bucket, sponge , etc.. Fill up the bucket with soapy water, wet car, wash, rinse...

 

they claim to "recycle water"
which everyone knows is bullshit. it just ends up in the sewer where they can process it at the treatment plant

just wash it in your driveway and don't let the water gestapo get you down.

 

i live in an apartment with water restrictions so i had to tough it out since there was no way i was going to a pay 'n wash place. eventually i cracked after seeing my car dirty for so long so here is what i did:

get some Optimum No-Rinse car wash, and a high quality wash towel (i use a Cobra Guzzler Waffle Weave Towel) as well as a bucket of course. i got this from superiorcarcare.net but you can google these things and find them anywhere.

last i got some 2 gallon water jugs from Kroger to be extra careful about breaking any laws :hsnono: and went to a secluded area so i wouldn't catch any flak. you mix up the car wash and simply apply it gently with the towel. its really weird to fight the urge to rinse the car off but you don't need to. don't scrub, just drag the towel over the car and don't let grit build up on the towel.

this way you are being water conscious and can't be faulted for washing your car. it's not the best wash, i'd prefer to scrub but at least it helps. the key is to wash often and that way you don't need such major cleanings which is better for this type of wash. bonus if you have a garage, you can wash it in there and let the soap go down the floor drain without worrying that you'll be getting water everywhere with a hose for rinsing.

the water wasn't too big a deal for me. i don't care where it comes from as long as it's clean. its alot less than a ticket, which is what i'm trying to avoid in the first place. not that it matters, but personally i keep alot around for my saltwater aquarium (top-off water) anyway so it was on-hand.

its not that bad. do a search on it, not many people dislike it. like i said it's not perfect but it can help.

 

kind of reminds me of last summer when this drought bullshit was in full swing. I decided to hit up an italian restaurant nearby.

I ordered a water. the dumbshit waiter told me they only had bottled water because of the drought. turns out, it was DASANI bottled water, bottled in good ole Atlanta, GA. I asked him what the FUCK they cook their pasta in, to which he stammered about and then I left.

I guess I just don't really buy into the drought propaganda. plus our governor is an idiot.

...or whatever stupid mollusk dies if we quit letting so much out of the lake. it's sad that in desert states they don't have the same problem we do.

anyway i agree, i just wish my neighbors would be cool enough to not raise hell if i washed my car once in a while.

 

well I have been using the quarter washes (only using the pressure sprayer, no brush) for what seems like a year, keeps the car looking decent. Well unless you can put a mitt to your paint you will have a buildup of crap that leaves your car looking like crap. I broke down yesterday and gave my car a good old fashioned wash in the driveway of my condo and my (literally) gay neighbor scowled at me and shook his head. I busted his fairy ass washing his Audi SUV the other day but I didnt say shit. He is president of the HOA and is a nazi about everything.

I took my car through a $6 touchless 'lazer wash' about a week ago and when my car dried it had black streaks all over it, looked horrible. I had to cleaner wax my whole car to get it off. I think the water was just plain dirty. Damn this drought.

 

I use Carnette's Carwash off of Indian Trail... I go about once every week and a half.

I usually bring it home afterwards and wax it and detail out the rims... cause the wash place does a terrible job on the details. Sometimes they miss entire sections of the surface and always under the handles and rear view mirror areas that face the driver.

I cannot wait until they lift the water ban in Gwinnett County.

 

I use a coin-op place and just use the sprayer. That or detailing spray in my garage when I want to get it shiny!

 

i just let my car sit out side when it rains (free car wash!), gets most of the dirt off make it look psuedo clean which is good enough for me for now.
