Next week I will be getting the nice hunk of metal pictured below and would like to do the install myself (I think it's a good learning experience, and fun to do with friends). Is anyone free on Saturday the 30th or Sunday the 1st to help me? I will gladly be buying some pizza, wings, beer, and/or soda.

    I need:
    -a place to do it.
    -the neccessary tools, jacks, etc.
-any experience/knowledge about installing an uppipe or header.

Headers/UP are easy; don't sweat it. Be aware that you really need to yank your DP too.

    edit: use fresh gaskets

edit2: see my UP install thread in DIY

edit3: USE A F@#*^@*#N TORQUE WRENCH (can't emphasize this enough)

edit4: use an O2 sensor socket and pull the sensor from the wheel well; turn wheels all the way to the right and pop the plastic panel and it's easy

Not equal length unless there are some well hidden bends.

Thanks for the offer. I'll definetely consider it. Do you have tools? a torque wrench?

BTW, it is an un-equal length header with a pre-drilled EGT tap on the #4 cyclinder and a "velocity stack" 45mm uppipe.

Ouch. Well I would prefer to do it then so I can get Scott to tune it the following week. If I can't get a few people to help (which doesn't appear to be the case) then I'll change my plans.

Thanks man. Where do you live? Wanna drive or ride with me to Alpharetta? :naughty:

*** OK, for all you PTMers, Mark, Alex, maybe sunday the 1st??? I've been waiting for this since I pre-ordered it IN JUNE!!! :)

I am working at the North Georgia State Fair at the CERT booth that day. I could help you on the 8th if you'd like. I don't have tools though. I just have a socket set.

You can probably rent them at AutoZone, I think it's practically free as long as you return them.

(I quit lending out my own tools; for some reason whoever borrows the stuff takes forever to get it back to me)

Let us know what the exhaust sounds like after the install, my header de-subarued my exhaust sound, it was VERY smooth (no rumble) and a slightly higher tone (rx-7-ish). I lost low end spool but seemed to gain a little over 5k rpm so I polished the stock manifolds and swapped'em back. i'll probably switch back and forth a couple of times b-4 I figure out which I prefer. I also lost some ground clearance. But they are easy to install!

Most likely yours are equal length if you lost the boxer sound. The Mad Dad headers are supposed to keep that and gain in all places.

Update for me: assuming I get my car done Saturday and make it to the Petit Le Mans I'd be willing to come over. Where in midtown are you? I'm down here, around GT campus.

Well, I live in the Plaza Midtown (w/ the Publix), but it looks like I'm going to be going to 1ll-WRX's place up in Alpharetta for the install, so it's a bit of a drive.

    PB Blaster
    Air Tools
    torque wrench
    new gaskets

I know its very pretty have you thought of ceramic coating the exhaust manifolds ?
If you have new gaskets place it on the inlet to see if it matches, and if not you can port it a tad while its accessible. Also you may want to tap an EGT bung again while its accessible nearer to the cylinders
