I finally got my shirt in the mail, so I'll be wearing that for sure. Did you get the crx fixed or will you be co-driving with mere?

well you guys didn't miss too much...the first run group took forever, so they cut it down to two runs. Not as bad as it sounds though, as each run was two laps, good times being in the 1:40s. Only one other subaru owner out there, Wayne, I believe he said he was a wrxatl member. Drives a wingless blue bugeye.

I stayed till the bitter end and got two fun runs in, for 4 total. Also met Jodi, a dam fast driver of a g stock mini. I felt really slow after seeing her times.

You met the Bradleys! Jodi and Jeff are great people; Jodi let me co-drive her car divisionals. That mini is set up perfectly. I just couldn't roll out of bed yesterday....

yea, it was a decent size track, plus each run was two laps. The course design was good too. Unfortunately we got started too late and the first group took forever (too many newbies getting lost, had to run 1 at a time in those cases).

There was a guy in an s2000 with a polycarbonate windshield. I had never seen that before. Pretty cool IMO since that is commonly used in spectacle lenses, and is practically bulletproof. Lightweight too.

i'd assume its very prone to scratches

    It isn't street legal either.

he had a scratch coating on it, of course (I don't think it would be very functional without one) which was holding up pretty decently.

I don't see why it wouldn't be approved for street use as long as was of good optical quality, had a durable scratch coating, and had a good fit. I have heard they use polycarb on military vehicles. Saw a photo while I was in school of a bullet lodged in a polycarb spectacle lens (not a test, an actual person's glasses).

I read that the NTSB requires safety glass, but I doubt that they would check for it unless you were getting the car certified. I would worry more about the polycarb windshield either shattering into small fragments (if it is too thin), or detaching from the windshield and becoming a projectile in the event of a serious collision. I am sure that the chances are slim. I would personally wouldn't mind using polycarb/lexan to replace all windows on my autoX car except for the windshield.

For Mere's new racecar, it already has lexan rear window and side windows, with a standard front window. The only guidelines in the GCR are that for replacement with polycarbinate, the front window must be at least 6mm thickness and the sides/rear must be at least 3mm. They also require the use of retention clips for the front windshield, which would alleviate my earlier concern about the windshield becoming a projectile.
