Hey this is J Man from Redline Auto Club I have an idea for next year. It may be too bold but I have a vision. Here it is. CLUB WARS TRACK DAY. ROEBLING ROAD___SAVANAH GA WRX ATLANTA REDLINE AUTO CLUB MOCA S2K ATLANTA CHIN MOTORSPORTS NSX ATLANTA We would race against the Clock. Each club would be scored on its best 5 finishes. Each individual would be scored on his or her time. Awards for fastest clubs. Awards for fastest drivers. Have you ever wondered if your top five were better than another Clubs top 5? Do you know who your top five drivers are in your club? Would you be shocked if you were beaten by a 118 HP Mazda Miata? Is the S2k faster than the WRX on the Track? Can Redlines Honda Civics, & Mazda MX3's shock a 80K car when they hit the Track? Pride, Ego, Bragging Rights, It would all be on the line. Give me some feed back. J Man
I think it would be awesome Yes, you are correct. BTW, you dont have any 05 rotors for sale by chance do you?
I don't think you will be able to get away with any sort of timed competition at roebling without extra insurance. Also since the event is non-educational if people wreck their car, their personal insurance will not cover anything. Also since roebling is such a high speed course, lower horsepower cars would be creamed without any consideration of driver skill. Courses like little talladega and CMP really even out the playing field between cars sine the courses have short straights and tight corners. If you really want to have a inter-club driving competition that's safe and fair I would head to the next local SCCA autox. While the autox isn't as high speed as road courses, it really brings out the abilities of both drivers and their cars. Also scca has a well set up class system with a PAX (an index based on the car's modificaton) to determine if all thing are equal which driver was the fastest. Just my 2 cents.
Good Ffed Back Good feed back. Right now its just an idea. All of you are correct. Insurance changes for a competitive event. Roebling Is a fast Track. Yes, you could wreck your car. Reality says that the NSX & the WRX should mop up the compitition, Fact says that Mark Hicks in his Mazda Miata or Tim Myers in his Mazda 3 SCCA Show Room Stock Car would probably run all of us down. Its more about the driver than the car. Tim Myers got into a guys WRX STI at Roebling last year and took him for a spin. The guy could not keep his own car on the track for more than 4 or 5 laps. Tim takes him out and misses breaking the Track Record for that class car by just tenths of a second. 153MPH down the straight. People were passing me on the Track left & right until Tim got in the Car with me and with a few pointers, I was passing & lapping folks on the track. Any way. It would require a lot of work & a big commitment from myself & the other clubs. It sounds like I struck some interest. Dont get the wrong Idea. Redline is not a buch of Ricers trying to get folks to race. I just think it would be cool to come up with something for us to have friendly competition in a safe & controlled enviroment. The bootom line is. If we build it they will come Lets keep talking & see if this bird takes flight. J Man
event insurance, for basic is $50 (this was the cost for having a wedding reception at furnbank, a car event is gonna be different I'm sure) if you want me to find out, I can ask my dad, he works for state farm, and they do that kind of thing.
Well i guess the mx5's would be the RS's main challenge Getting lapped would be sucked, i need to organise a regular track day to get some of my own skill developped. god this sociology lecture is dull
you guys missed a good track day on Saturday at CMP... The Redline event was fun last year at Roebling, but for the money, I would rather go back to CMP. -- Brian
If you guys really want to hone your skills autox is the perfect way to get started. Smooth imputs, smooth control of throttle and braking, looking ahead are things I that I have learned autoxing. All these skills will make you a decent driver on the track. There is a famous saying that "autocrossers make good road racers, road racers do not make good autocrossers". Right now Heyward (the Solo II chairperson for Atlanta Region) and WRX admins put together a little pax challenge for the members. If it means getting more people serious about autox perhaps next season we can have a club pax competition. But if you are really serious about tracking, I would go to a HPDE day at CMP run by turn 1 motorsports. All the instructors are veteran drivers; and for $250 for a saturday the price is just right. I learned a ton in one day, but the truth is that I learn just as much with some friendly (and free!) advice from Joel or Jay Parcon at an autox.
For me, autox just dosn't appeal in the same way. I find it frustrating. I like having a little bit more of opening up on the throttle rather than just flying around a car park. I can see the enjoyment and skill of it but i also hate cones!
hey why not do both and add 1/4 in there, have a line of say 3 competitions, first one, road course, second one, autoX, last one, 1/4 certain points awarded for each event and then you would have say... a grand champion. (can anyone say battle royale') On a side note, it would be better if you just rent out the track rather than doing hpde just cause, the track is yours for the day, you dont have to share is with anyone else except for the people you invite. And the insurance shouldn't go up to much since theres only one car on the track rather than 5 or more but times (hey who has to know hahahaha)
An event like that would take some serious organizational effort, man power, and at least two days to complete. I think it would be really fun but far beyond a few auto clubs bringing together a friendly little competion. Honestly, it sounds like something that a car magazine like sport compact car would do. I could see it now....."THE BATTLE OF ATLANTA" with a picture of my car on the cover. Maybe we can get them to help foot the bill.
well, the AutoX wars are already setup just need to get people to register for the next SCCA event, and set the car make to WRXatl. This will compare all the cars under the PAX based system, which should work good for comparison. http://www.wrxatlanta.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5530 -- Brian
hey, i think it would be possible and yes it would take probably 3 days, but you span it out over 2 months as far as insurance, are you talking track insurance or car insurance. Anywho, i have a contact over at roebling road and little talladega, let me call both of them, see how much they talkin EDIT: Nevermind with Roebling road since they require a racing license for and club to rent their track, and with little talladega, they are closed to remodeling until Jan 2007, but when I talked to the guy he said 2,000 to rent the track for the day, doesn't matter if you want to time the cars going around the track. And 1,200 for insurance for one track day.
This Is Great This is great feed back. I think that we have reached a point in this discussion that calls for us to sit down and work on a plan. If we have too many people doing the research we could get information overload.hnoes: I will start a planing committee. I need 1 pearson from WRX ATL to be on this. If you think you can seriously contribute to this idea and are willing to spend some of your free time to make this happen, post on this thread and and PM me your phone number so that we can look into this. I really appreciate your response. I have always heard that WRX Atlanta was a class organization and having met several of you and having conversed with you on the site, I know it to be true my self. Track Day Club Wars Committee. just got in contact with my person up at cmp, she said 4000 (3775 to be exact) for one day use of the track , sorta time trial type thing, no racing license required, but they do require racing suit and helmet, the track insurance for the day would be 700 dollars. Everything that is included in the 4,000 dollar price is one medic on standby, day shit gate supervisor and something else i cant remember. That price if for the weekend, and of course it would be less to do it on the weekday. What can i say, i'm home and bored -e
Personally I rather be at a track with where people have instructors in their cars to keep them from be incredibly stupid than having a bunch of track virgins going at it. Also how do you learn anything without somesort of instruction? No offense but it sounds like you have never done a track day, usually the track tells you how many cars can be out on the track at once. Unless you are really rich, there will be around 20 to 30 minimum cars for most private track days. I have been to CMP twice now (latest trip was last saturday) and unless you are in a some sort of prepped race car you don't need a racing suit just a helmet. You really shouldn't be acting as somesort of authority on this subject.
This thread is for discussing a get together. This thread is NOT about who knows more about racing and track days. This thread is NOT about who has more experience than another member. Lets keep it that way
Yes i have been to a couple track days, and no i'm not the authority, all i'm doing is calling the tracks seeing what they offer, i'm at home and bored and actually wanna see something like this. All i know is what the track tells me and to have a track event at cmp and time it, like time trials this is what you need, if you wanna call them up, feel free to. And if you read earlier in the post, you could see, this is someone trying to set up a competition, so if you have no previous knowledge of how to race on the track, hey thats your own fault, go do a track day up at road atlanta for 299. All i offer is information, nothing else. But I do wanna see some sorta event like this go
First you posted this: You don't need a SCCA or NASA license for a club to rent their track. Secondly you said that one needs a track suit to driver their car at a track day at CMP. If you running in a competition or prepped race car you most likely need a suit. You are posting things that are total BS and giving people the wrong idea. If you think two track days make you the "ultimate" track driver I don't wanna be around when you hit the track.
Heck Freaking Yeah!!! This sounds pretty cool. We just did the Import Showdown / Siegel Racing Time Attack. We had 30 cars, no more than 6 on track at a time. M-chan is very correct though, as soon as you add a competitive aspect to it, it goes from "insurable" HPDE to "competition" and your auto insurance will NOT cover a wreck. What we did at the Time Attack was offer different classes, some as HPDE (not timed, instructors offered, and insurable), and some as "Time Attack" (timed, competive, and not insurable). I'd be happy to roll out some of the other Siegel Racing Driver Education Clinic Instructors so that the HPDE classes could officially have "instructor options." With the K&K Insurance we should be able to run near as many cars on track as we are comfortable with. I'll post more later, but I think this is pretty cool. If the intent is a bunch of people who are new to road-courses, from a safety standpoint it might be worth waiting until TGP opens back up. Then again, CMP is a pretty safe track. If we start organizing it now, it should be pretty well set up by January. SS
Ok first, WHAT THE CRAP IS THIS THREAD ABOUT, ITS ABOUT A COMPETITION, NOT A TRACK DAY, think before you speak next time. But so you wont get confused, i edited my post. 2nd, Roebling Road require Race license to run their track, if you dont have that, then it would have to be under HPDE with an instructor, since we are talking competition here, i made the fair assumtion that it would be outta the question. With Little Tally, they are closed til Jan 2007, so that is outta the question for now unless you wanna do it next year. 3rd so how do you know how many track days i've been to, do you personally know me? As far as cmp goes, how many people know how they run things up there, all I did was call and gather some information for use of the people tryin to organize this event. As some people know, to run timed event some tracks do require that you have racing licenses. Last, why are you bashing me for just putting out informaton. Do you not like me? Did i ever say i was king ding-a-ling on the track? Did I do something to you in a former life? Or are you just a douche?
just split the thread and make an off topic thread for the bullshit then. Let's keep this thread on topic and see what Jonathan can put together. I did the Redline event last year at Roebling and it was fun. I like Scott's ideas as well. -- Brian
I ran roebling last year with no instructor, maybe it has changed. However the stuff you posted about needing a suit at CMP is total BS. I really don't think this event will truly pan out as a "competition" type event. If you look at the scca rules for SOLO I (time trials), you have to get a time trial license before you can really run events without instructors. The level 2 events you can run your timed sessions without an instructor, but the rest of the event you have to have an instructor in you car. That quote sure made you sound like you were the "king ding-a-ling" of the track.
Please don't call my wife a douche. Stop being an asshat... if you don't have anything beneficial to this thread, then don't post anything. I am sure Jonathan and Scott could put together a great event. Now, back on topic... -- Brian
PorsheAlbany M-Chan Please get back on topic. No one wants to see you 2 argue. Take that garbage to PM's. If I have to come back in here I am crackin skulls
sorry if i insulted anyone, but all information that i gathered today was directly from the mouth of the people who run the tracks. Maybe it has changed, maybe not, i dont know, Little tally, roebling and cmp, i've never ran those tracks so I dont know how the operate, and that is why i called them anyway... I still wanna see this go down either way (and wanna participate)
:wavey: This is entirely out of hand and seems to be the misunderstanding of multiple parties (at this point). It seems that a mr. albany here merely called his contact at CMP and relayed the information given to him to us. I fail to see any claims illustrated regarding level of skill, etc. Returning to subject, this idea is grand and I do believe I can pitch something to subiesport regarding it. That is, of course, if we have a note worthy Subaru presence. In terms of a contact from WRXatlanta to aid in this planning, might I suggest that you simply delegate this to our Administration team (Myself, milo and our moderation staff). We will work with Scott Siegel and establish somewhat soon what we will be / we are capable of bringing to the table, so to speak. Until then, let's keep this open to discussion! As always, cheers.
can't we all just get along! hehe this sounds like a lot of fun, lemme know if I can help out with any planning
M-chan, PorscheAlbany: please check your PMs back on topic: i will participate in autoX and drag racing events... my participation in track events will depend on which track we go to
Where did all the love go Hey guys. Sorry I have been out of touch. I tried for about 4 days to get on the site but it was down or my system would not let me get in. I have spoken to Joe from the Honda S2K Atl Club and he has agreed to sit on a planing committee and help put together a possible plan. I don't want to try & figure this out on this thread exactly because sometimes we can go into information overload. All I really need is for the Officers of WRX to select 1 person to represent and we can go from there. I did not realize that other organizations could get involved so quickly but that is not a bad thing as long as we can work together. This will take a while to work out & although we all have our contacts & ideas, we have to have order to this. Because I am on WRX ATL site I will conduct myself as a guest & will work with the leaders of this club. It is not my intention to start any hard feelings between organizations. If you are not a member of WRX ATL you should respect that you are a guest & we as guest will be respected as well. I think that we have proven that there is enough interest in this to seriously look into it. If the President of WRX ATL would Private Message me with a name of the 1 or 2 Rep that will speak for WRX ATL, I think we are ready to shut this Topic down & start working on this behind the scenes. I can honestly say that I have never gotten this much response from a Topic that I have posted. Thank you very much. PS> I am not always this polite but I am a Guest here so I have to put my best foot forward:keke: I will wait for that Private Message & thank you guys once again. J Man
alex and I will be discussing this issue this evening... one of us will be involved in these discussions with you
