Yes, but you will need brackets and pads to go with the calipers. You can call Lisa at SoG and she can give you a price on how much it will cost to convert. If you put the 4 pots up front I would suggest the H6 upgrade(ask Lisa about it) for the rear and changing to the 2 pot rears is alot harder than 4 pots on the front. The H6 upgrade as its called puts larger rotors on the back. So you have to change the caliper brakets but everything stays the same other than the rotors and the brakets.
The 02 has a special pad, so as long as you are going from 06 to 02 and not the opposite you are okay.
While I am a huge fan of the H6 upgrade, do realize that its primarily a looks mod. If you are looking for increased braking performance, pads, lines and fluid will help more than the larger rear rotors...
Thanks alot guys! I have the cross drilled rotors, brake lines, fluid, and pads. I think the subaru h6 upgrade will be a lot cheaper than a brembo or wildwood big brake kit.
well, in theory larger rotors will have a higher heat capacity, which in turn extends the usefulness of rear breaks on the track at least. so it's not total bling if you're tracking.
There was a pretty big debate about the H6 upgrade on NASIOC awhile back. If memory serves, the larger rear rotor, while theoretically having a higher heat capacity, proved to have little practical effect on braking performance. See this thread from Nasioc...http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=765901&highlight=bbk
Larger diameter rotors give you more braking leverage. Just like lenthening the length of a pry bar it magnifies braking effort. The greater heat dissipation will only help if you are overheating the rears. It could actually hurt if your brake pads work better under higher temps ie. race pads. But the extra leverage can make a big difference.
here's my understanding: better brakes all around -> better braking in the front and better braking in the back... better braking in the front will cause more weight to transfer to the front, hence deweighting the rear... so better brakes in the rear will tend to lock the rear wheels... is something wrong in my logic?
The WRX stock has a rear brake bias. By installing the 4 pots up front and the H6/2 pot rears you even out the bias front to rear and the car is more predictable under braking. This is the way I understood it.
i didnt know that... im wondering why they would do that... most of your braking needs to happen up front anyways... biasing it to the rear would: 1) increase braking distance 2) cause the rear tires to lockup, potentially putting u in oversteer mode considering most stock cars come understeer prone for safety, it defies my logic why they would chose to make the brakes rear biased
It not enough to make it unsafe. When driving the car in a sporting manner/competition it becomes obvious. I could be wrong on this. It just what I read and it was confirmed by alot of people on the threads I read. It maybe because our cars are so nose heavy. As much as 65% of an Imprezas weight is over the front wheels.
