I have a stock '04 wrx wagon, with approx. 33K miles on it. Over the weekend, I started it, and heard a metal-knocking sound... which I've heard to be called the "Knock of Death". My heart sank. So I had it towed to SoG yesterday morning and am awaiting an official diagnosis. They mentioned that in all likliehood, I'd be looking at a new short block. (...holding back my tears). They said they'd have to have the Subie Area Director come out and determine final prognosis and whether it would in fact be covered under warranty. But I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be covered by the warranty, and now they've got me worried. They asked me to fax over a history of oil change service statements and any other maintenance history receipts. Which I've done. And now I'm kinda just scratching my head. I feel like I'm in a hospital waiting room... Any thoughts/comments/advice would be much appreciated!
I am not an expert in warranty issues, but if you truly have a stock 04 Wagon, seems to me it should be covered, baring abusive driving practices. The guys at SOG are good about trying to be on the up and up regarding the warranty, so lets hope the SOA rep is as honest...good luck!
If it is stock no worries, I would not. Even if they tried to stiff you a firm stance with SOA would solve that. I know several people that managed to get their trannys replaced with mods. Just took a lot of phone work.
Thnx! Yeah... I've heard a dozen great things about the guys at SoG, so I'm thinking things will be fine. I'm postponing any mods (or abusive driving practices-ha!) until after I'm out of warranty... just for my own protection and risk of voiding warranty.
Isnt powertrain 60k anyway? Also, check with your insurance. If your warranty wont cover, some insurance companies may.
Well... it's official. SOG rocks. They took care of my blown engine, without concern, under warranty. As it should have been nonetheless. I'm still completely, and utterly baffled at how the "oil shortage" came to be. But even so, SOG (and more specifically, Steve) deserves some major kudos... And for settling a worry-wart's nerves. My car drives like new. Love it. Couldn't be happier.
glad everything worked out.... im going to pick up my car tomorrow too... and im sure its going to feel completely new
