the difference between the low mark and the full mark is not very much. I think it may only be a half qt.

I guess all your lines were dry and its pumped the oil back through them causing it to drop 1/2 a quart.
If your car don't smoke and there's no puddle under the car then I don't think its much to worry about. I check my oil every other fill up so I never really worry much about it unless I see my oil pressure drop and smoke start flowing out from behind my car. well no more then usual when WOT.

Yeah, its supposed to be 4.8qt exactly. No sweat though, the extra .3qts not in the engine won't destroy anything. Our cars are always losing oil. I think it has to do with the way the boxer engine is sealed and the way the pistons are moving. Not completely sure though. I can never tell how much oil I have in the tranny or the engine.

It takes a while to get all the way in the filter and some of your lines have been drained. Its normal to change a little and the difference between the high and low mark is very little.

well if you changed your oil filter as well it should have taken more but if not that sounds about right. i had the pleasure of screwing up and oil change once and got oil everywhere in the engine bay. it started burning and i thought i screwed up my car big time
