Depressing dyno day results = depressing track results

Well it looks like the depressing dyno day numbers were matched with depressing track day numbers.

I was only able to run a best of 12.519 @ 116.27. My other runs were I didn't miss a shift were in the 12.8x @ 114.x range.

    My best with the 20g was 12.33 @ 115.15 on the 6 speed tranny and I consistently ran 12.5's. On the 5 speed I went 12.40 @ 113.13 with a worked over vf22.

The only thing I can think of outside of some real mechanical issues is that the bov venting 100% to atmosphere is messing my shifts upp or the heads are just maxed. Prior to this turbo I always had a 100% recirc setup and never had issues missing shifts. The car really falls on its face when you let off it at high rpm.

I am going to get a leakdown test done this week so I can hopefully rule out mechanical issues.

On the bright side, your trap speed is up which is a good sign you're making more powah. :)

12.5 doesn't really sound that bad.

Sorry youre results weren't what you expected, youre trap speeds suggest that the car is capable of a very low 12 second pass. What kind of 60 foot times were you cutting.

1.78 was my 60ft on the best run.

The 12.33 run on the 20g was with a 2.04 60 ft at Commerce. I only had 5 runs on the 20g and all of them were less than 12.6. The 12.33 run could have been in the 11's with my typical 60ft. I was nowhere close to getting there with the t3/t40s. I was hoping with this setup up that I would be solidly in the 11's

It does when you consistently ran faster with a smaller turbo.

Liquid consider it done! The tranny is still in good shape right? I will have the cash Tuesday and ready to swap Saturday or Sunday possibly.

Bump, how bout an even trade for a 4.44 geared ver5 STI tranny? :sx::sx: Sucks about the worse numbers but I'd chalk up a half second to gear shifts on the 6spd.

Bigger turbos take more to spool. Your stock heads just aren't breathing up top. You need cams with more lift to get that air out. When it backs up like that you fall on your face. I'm seriously not thinking of going 2.5L due to the head work involved and just splurging on a Ver8 engine.

Brake boost that sucker off the line and build up boost and you will dramatically lower the 60' times. Sorry about that man the car is definately capable and should cut low 11's but the heads are just killing you and not to mention the 6 speed.

It's official....I'm NOT going 2.5L hybrid. Not worth it. I'm staying true to Subie heritage and going JDM yo! 8K revs and forged internals with AVCS FTW!

    Can’t get any clearer than:
The combo you are about to build is in my opinion one of the worst engine combos ever. Its simply sucks. I would honestly rather have the 2.0 stock bottom end put back in the car. The 2.5L hybrid with WRX heads is the worse pile of crap there is. For the money you can't beat a true Ver7 or Ver8 engine.

I'm seeing all kinds of issues with the hybrids. I mean yeah SS and others are doing them all the time but look at what WJM said....they maxed out one on the 20g! I'm not dissing you in any way Mike but you should be blasting low 11's. Come on I'm running 11's all day on the stock 2.0L. Get your heads taken care of and enjoy the new power. In the mean time I am going to enjoy my stock 2.0L and save up for the JDM goodness.

    Hmm...

  14. Funny you mention the JDM 207 engine. I was thinking of posting if anyone local had experience with that swap instead of the 2.5. It will be awhile before I can even think of that though. Good luck!

haha. Hey Mike did you ever get the Ver8 internals from Matt?

No I didn't and my apologies go out to Matt for not getting back to him.

I haven't been able to confirm that it will all fit in a stock 02 wrx heads.

The only thing different about the 2002 is the shim under bucket. I don't see why they wouldn't if you had everything though. Contact AZScoobie on Nasioc.....he's done a TON of JDM work and tuning and should know right off the top of his head.

Heck WJM probably even knows....have you asked him?

I gotta 5spd w/Full RA gearset, but we would have to work on the cash if interested. Can I still use my flywheel and clutch? I would imaging not.

I picked up some ported v6 sti heads from Will today. If everything checks out ok they will be going on the car soon.

This is going to push back the tranny swap about 8 months or so.

That RA gearset will not last long at all on Mike's car. Anything over 350 is pushing the envelope on the RA's.

Just some food for thought, all the fastest drag cars are running a 2.5 or bigger.

I like 2.0 liters as much as the next guy but there is no replacement for displacement.

Put some big cams in the wrx heads and roll with it....

Yea SS and I are going back and forth on this. 2.5L with Ver8 heads looks promising. I dunno. When the time is right I will make a decision. In the meantime research, research, research.

The drag scene is old and boring to me now. I'm wanting to do some track racing and just enjoy driving the car in general. Draggin was fun while it lasted but the last few times I went I didn't get much of an adrenaline rush.

Again for the track displacement rules, the more torque you have the better the car comes off the corners.

2.5 with V8 heads is the way to go.

I had a sweet deal lined up for a EJ207 V7 shortblock with V8 heads for $3500 with Hydra included but someone else beat me to the punch.

I'm back at the EJ257 after talking for a good 45 minutes with Cobb. Apparently the EJ257 shortblock with stock STi head gaskets with the stock WRX heads that only have Crower Stage 2 cams and spring upgrade is one of the sickest setups for my goals. With the raised compression and the cams this engine is supposidly very easy to tune and has more potential for a wide power band than the stock STi engine. One way to find out.....

i think it was a rerun but i saw a show comparing the dodge viper and the ford gt and at the end they took two owners and had them race each other on a 1/4 mile strip and neither car was doing better than 12's so i'd feel pretty good if i was running the same times as 80,000 and 150,000 dollar cars even if they weren't professionally driven

6 speed gearing absolutely sucks for 1/4 passes. Unless they are the revised '07 ratios.
