This run was without methanol... I didn't use it cause I'm not tuned for it.. just ran 100 octane pump gas and 22psi with a race gas map. I know I can do better, but these were still pretty decent runs.. No matter what I did, I couldn't seem to get past a 1.8 60' though.. I may be at the limits of my stock clutch. Anyway, here ya go. Btw- I was running mid 12s all day, and I was one of the slower guys out there :eek3: BUT the only fast import, so I got da respect! :ddirty:
Nothing special really.. wait for the staging lights, I rev to 5k and hold it, then at the last yellow I slip the clutch slightly to move, then side step it to complete the launch. I usually leave the hole at full boost or very close, and shift at redline every shift to maximize the power of the 20G. The feeling of leaving the line at full boost is frickin rediculous.. it can literally take your breath for a second. :eek3:
Every single time I ran, it was always against something big.. in this case, it was a silver 00+ Cobra/SVT/Saleen with 12" slicks tucked under the wheel wells. He was hittin a mean lick too, and I think he was bottled, but not sure. He had a 6 pt. roll cage & harness, gutted interior, and wore a helmet. I knew I was gonna lose hnoes: , but didn't really have a choice who I ran against at that time. It was just a test & tune at Alabama International Dragway in Steele, AL. Near B'ham. 1st run was against a silver Cadillac CTS-V (corvette LS6 engine) with cam(s), exhaust, and was tuned by Vengeance performance or something in GA. 2nd run was against a black GTO with a high stall (auto), slicks, intake, exhaust, and some ecu tuning ( he didn't tell me what else) and he ran an 11.39 @ 120.4.. Then the 3rd was the Mustang above. I was 1 of 5 imports amid 150 domestics, all of which were highly modified. Most of the guys around that area are older or retired rednecks that hate rice, but they gave me props in this case.
Hey you gave them a run for there money and made'm think twice about our "rice"........... Good stuff...
Yup I was lovin that part.. nobody paid much attention until the 1st run against the CTS-V, and when he only got me by 3 tenths, lotsa people started looking at the soob and the WRXatlanta decals! Gotta represent the Subies in the V8 world. On a side note, one Mustang (there was a ton of those) spit/burned oil all the way down the track during a run and shut us down for about 2 hours.. then another blew a rad hose and sprayed coolant down the track.. I think we were down as much as racing because of that crap..
Looks like the original vid is too crappy to post... this was done by my wife with a digital camera, so I apologize for the lack of quality. Here's one of the runs against a 98 Cobra.. he gets the jump (I bogged on the launch), but I catch him and pass him around the 1/8th FTW. Ran a 12.7 to his 13.2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIrGxV2WImc The only other run that was any good I was by myself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbNGiruN6OI I'll try to get some better footage next time... or maybe a different camera operator
