Ok, quick question(s) on AP. Alright I got the V1 AP and the cable that came with it for the computer, has two male ends, and I need one with a female and a male. Where do I get that? Also, the AP also has a SS map for a stage 2 sti, so would it be safe for me to go ahead and load that map, even though it wasn't made for my car specifically?

Radioshack, Fry's or MicroCenter should have the cable you need. You want to tell them you need a male to female serial cable.

I would not want to load a map that was not tuned on my car...

I dunno I would imagine it is as safe as the OTS...Perhaps you can pm the file name to SS and he can check to see what the mods were for that map. I know SS has all the mods listed in the description for mine.

I bought it from Turbonater, and he said he had the same setup as me... TBE(catted) with intake...

I would imagine NOT. It's never a good idea to take a map from somebody else's ride even if it's very similar to yours.

What do u guys think an ots map is? Its a map tuned for a car that isn't urs. As long as the car it was on previously had the exact same mods as you I don't see why it would be an issue. Most tuners won't recommend an ots map for the same reason they wouldn't recommend someone elses map. Its not for ur car. It will probly be ok till u get tuned tho.

What do YOU think an OTS map is? It's a map tuned very mildly to fit a wide range of tolerances and cars. A map tuned for a particular car is--assuming it's worth a crap--tuned to gain the most safe power for _that particular car_. It should make a fair amount more power than the OTS map but the penalty is that it won't be generic/safe enough to run on other vehicles.

Yes but what I was getting at is, most tuners won't recommend an ots map vs a tune because of the same reason they wouldn't recommend a map tuned for Joe blow's car, it's not ur car. That's all I was saying, not attacking, just informing based on previous experiences.

    I don't think you're really understanding this.

An OTS map might be tuned to eek out maybe 60-70% of the car's potential added performance. This is so that it can safely be use on different cars with different tolerances. Car A might prefer 29 degrees of timing while car B might handle 31 just fine... so the map might stick to 27 to keep things safe for everybody.

A tuned map is made to crank out the most possible performance while keeping things safe. It will NOT safely transfer to other vehicles.

Think of the OTS map as a slightly hopped up stock ECU map. The stock ECU map for say an '05 STi will run safely on all '05 STis. Same for the OTS map.

Not picking on you, but I don't want Greg to end up f-ing his engine up because of poor advice. Also, I doubt that Scott or Doug or anybody else would say NOT to use an OTS map. They're made conservative because of their intended use.

Especially with an Intake mod, this will seriously throw off MAF scale in Intake map, which is vital for fuel and ignition maps.

yes i talked to scott today when i was getting tuned about greg's appointment and he said that it really doesn't work like that. you can't just use someone else's map, every car is different. but yes the ots will be fine till you get there friday. and SS is the wicked nasty at tuning A++++++++. smooth like butta. see ya then buddy

Awesome ;) Also, I have one of those O2 sensor spacers installed, do I NEED to remove that now, or is it fine to just leave in?

I never said he should use that map. Just said that neither are tailored to his car. But since he is getting tuned the point is null and void anyways.

it your refering to a defouler CEL fix that spaces the o2 from the exhaust, then yes you can leave it in. ss will use rear pickup widebands to tune with. your normal o2 sensor will have little to do with what he is doing.

do you have the original ap to pc cable?
Otherwise snag a Null Modem cable with the convertors to change the male to female vice versa. Took me 3 trips to Fry's to get it all sorted.

Agreed completely. I wouldn't do it even if I had the EXACT same mods.

I would take the defouler out, you won't need it with the tune, he will turn the rear Cel off.
