I appologize, I completely meant to post these under the vendor account. Anyways, I was driving home the other day wondering what it might look like to do this to a bug eye. Once I do 2 or 3 sets for the 04-05 I will certainly be looking for a bugeye test subject :dirty:
i have done soem reading on converting jdm/edm projectors to hid and have been debating on sending mine out fo it. (i am not sure if i could do it myself) if nobody else has projectors for the bugeye, i will lend mine as a test bed.
I intend to use 3" BMW shrouds with a tsx projector and the stock hid bulbs. If you do not have HIDs already, then you will need to get those before hand.
Well, I am not sure what will exactly fit with the bugeyes. What Ill do is once I buy the parts and retro-fit my lights, I'll borrow a set of bugeyes and see if I can make the same parts fit with minimal additional modification. I anticipate cutting the shrouds to be a bitch.
i found a thread about a retrofit into a bugeye. they used the jdm projectors though....maybe the same light they used will work in normal bugeye housings? looks like they used audi A6 hids. http://i-club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36831&page=1&pp=15
From the looks of it, that may be the better starting point. I dont know enough about the bugeye and the jdm lamp to say yet though. Time will tell
what is this mod running you at the moment. I allready have HID's and I would like to get a better beam pattern.
Well the mod is actually using projectors rather than reflectors, hence the pattern you see above. Cheers,
Alex, how is your new project going?? when we have time together, let's bake my headlight together. Maybe I put better looking BMW shroud around my projectors instead of home depot version. lol.
I havent really had a chance to touch it yet, I am waiting for some free time to go ahead and order the parts and then I'll get busy with. Since Christmas break is nearly upon us, it should present me with the perfect amount of time to play around. Definately dude, we can play around with yours and see what the outcome is Projectors, yo Not entirely sure on pricing, it should be a 20-25hr job. Once I finish my set, I will have a much more concrete idea on how much I feel the job is worth. I'll keep ya updated though!
In my opinion, yes, considering you have them. For their size (smallest), they're the best for the buck. If you're interested, you're still more than welcome to come over. We can pull them apart and see what wa can do
The STi is going into the 10th St JDM for some eye surgery tomorrow - can you say upgraded TSX lens and some other goodies!!!
Rexrocker's 2006 STi w/ TSX lens upgrade, semi-flat black housings, chrome accent ring, parking/city light leds & chrome blinkers. Warming up at cutoff, yay for colouring Nice & warm Nice still with the lamps off; semi-flat black housings, chrome accent ring, parking/city light LEDs & chrome blinkers cheers, ak
wow, looking good, excellent craftsmanship I would suggest take some night shots of the sharp cutoff against a white wall
Another happy 10st customer! Alex, as always, does extremely profressional and high quality work. I am so happy with the finished product, in fact, my wife compared me to a kid at Christmas last night. And she even commented on how good the lights looked. The light output with the TSX lens is so much wider, full of color and tons brighter. I will post up some more pics in my journal after I take some night shots tonight, as well as some more before and afters. Bump for 10th St. JDM.
We will be playing with the cutoff next week at some point. I want to see if I can get it into a tighter line, and improve the output slightly. The thing about lighting is its always a learning / experimentation process ak
I saw Alex's work today for the first time. Good lord these are nice lights. It was a 2006 STI UGM and these lights looked PERFECT! Nice work Alex. Chris
Yes it is. I wanted to change my screen name since I graduated, but it didn't seem possible. Maybe I should just create a new one since I'm mostly a lurker for now. Hopefully I'll be posting more when I get my '08 STI from SOG when they become available. Depending on what they do with the lights on the '08 STI, I'll be keeping you in mind Alex. I am truely impressed. Anybody thinking about this, DO IT!! It looks incredible.
Awesome man, good to see you post up. I'm glad you dig my lights. I can't stop staring at my car. Slight threadjack, if you're in the Vinings area and need a good bike fit, go see Chris at Atlanta Cycling in Vinings, he'll take care of you. Back to your regularly scheduled thread.
doesn't look bad at all! will there be a combo price if you do the blacked out headlights and tsx lens at the same time? just curious... *thinks to himself* {must save some money}
Will the H1 HID's work with the TSX lens or do you have to get a new HID kit? Mine is made to work with the stock reflectors and one day I'll upgrade to the projectors.
OEM STi HID bulbs are d2r, TSX/S2k, etc are d2s. But, I may be willing to offer up a trade of sorts soon Speaking of, I had a chance to sit down yesterday and work with them. A few pieces I need arrived yesterday so hopefully Ill have these setup, mounted, painted, aimed, & installed by next week This is obviously test fitment, you can easily see how the shroud was sanded down for priming, and how it needs to be shaved slightly to fit perfectly. Also, take note that the lens on that TSX shell is a 2006 STi lens (see how its textured, "fresnel"). Rest assured, a set of clear lenses will be replacing it. This shell was just laying around so I was using it to test some mounting points.
Looks great man! Keep us posted. I recognize that fresneled lens. And yes, go clear. The light output is insane.
