If my man comes home at 2 am when we are supposed to be having "family time" again.....there will be big trouble at the shop!!!!! I had dreams that he was cheating on me all night!!!!!!!!!! ~Tracy
:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl: (i think that *might* be enough rofl smilies) dammit...limited to 12 smilies per post
LOL. I know he would never cheat. I did have the dreams tho. I hate going to sleep without him there. ~Tracy
LOL. You have to ask Scott what it is. We fight over what time to go home. He says he has to have family time and leave early all of the time
They are probably working on customer cars right now.....shop cars are usually messed with at the end of the day most of the time.
We are fixing the fuel pump right now, as well as putting the bigger injectors in. Should have more numbers shortly.
Having coolant problems, looks like the thermostat failed. We are making a restrictor plate now. More numbers in an hour or so. Matt
Good news and bad news.... We got the fuel problems worked out. The motor is fine. The headgasket is not. We will pull the motor back out on monday and take it to the machine shop to be checked. What we belive to be the problem is that you have to retorque ARP headstuds after the first heat cycle, we didn't. We will next time. Matt
I always use the stock head bolts just for that reason. Having to retorque the Subaru heads is a pain in the ass. Of course at the power levels you are going to be reaching the stockers may be at their limit.
Yeah I would say that the stock studs are fine for under 500hp after that they would worry me. I've been reading threads by Ron at Axis and he says the arp instructions are wrong and recommends another way. Ill try that this time. We are also going to try a thinner headgasket to see if we can pick up some compression ratio. Matt
Looks like the car is going to make more power than we thought. I'm just not sure if I want to puch it that far. It wasn't even working hard to make 500whp. We only spun it to 7500rpms to its showing no signs of slowing down. I've never seen another subby that would make 500hp on pump.
Yeah if its not tqed it won't seal. Why you think it making power so well? The engine or the turbo placement? The engine doesn't have to push so hard to route the air anymore. It almost like an evo now with the short piping.
Its funny the power delivery looks really good for a subaru with that large a turbo, however it still spools later than dans evo with the same turbo. It will be interesting to see how much the avcs affects all that once I get it working. The car really looks like its on track to make 700hp. at 18lbs that turbo isn't even in its efficency range and Dan didn't really have any timing in it yet. Matt
I don't have it here, I'm sure Mike will post it up Monday. Full power right at 5500 rpms so about 250 rpms later than a 35r
And by "any timing" we mean it's down 50 wlb-ft worth of timing for PUMP gas. I can't imagine how much this setup is going to make. As for the "why does it make so much power" question; it has some SERIOUS heads and cams... Siegel
If you are interested in a motor package I can set you up. Ball engines did all the machine work and assembly on this one and know that we know what we know about the head studs....these motors should be bullet proof. David at Ball Engines did a beautiful job on the heads, the port work looked amazing. There is very little engine noise (valvetrain\pistons) compared to Subaru motors that I have heard assembled by other people. Engines should be assembled by Engine builders not mechanics.
Oh to answer the question why does it make so much power....because we have fixed most of the crap that Subaru screwed up. For instance The exhaust manifold Intercooler Piping Length Compresion Ratio Cams Two great tuners Its pretty amazing to have two tuners the caliber of Dan Willie and Scott Siegel in one shop together. While they are both world class tuners in their own right, together they are pretty much unstoppable. I'm trying to talk Dan and Brandon into doing One Lap next year as well, if I get the go ahead then we will start working on a car for them very soon as well. The plans for my STI have changed a lot. We will be gunning for the top spot next year on One Lap. Matt
ill post the graph tomrrow! I have to agree with the Engine Assembly. Ball Engines did a fabulous job, the car sounded so much better than any other scooby that has cams. it was quiet, with a hint of lumpiness. i have video of a few dyno pulls too so you can see how effortless it was to make 500whp
I can see the intercooler piping, CR and cams but what's the deal with the exhaust manifold? How was it messed from factory? Are you saying headers are desired? I'm contemplating getting some EL headers for my new setup.
the big bonus of this exhaust manifold is the length of the headers is much better (read: shorter) than the stock ones.
The stock manifold design is horribe. The pre turbo back pressure is more than double what it shoudl be. Take a look at the full race thread.
