Thinking of going wingless on my 04sti.. I really like the wingless dropped look.. has anyone here done this? Which trunk do I need to look for to replace mine now? Which one has no holes? I'm guessing I'll need new springs in the wingless trunk as well because the wing is soooo heavy..

i would suggest tring to trade with a 04 05 wingless wrx. try posting in the WTB section on nosiac or here or clubwrx.net and mention the trade. im sure theres a wrx owner out there that would love the wing trunk instead of the wingless. unless you get cf trunk to match the hood. most of those come wingless.

Yes, trunk locks and springs would need to be swapped, unless you want to use your trunk as a water balloon launcher, then leave the springs on, and when you pop the trunk you should be able to launch a balloon the length of a football field, might actually be kinda fun.

If you're going wingless, you should check out the mine's lip spoiler. I've seen a handful. They look badass when they're molded to the trunk lid.

Maybe ping PED on the board here. He has an silver wingless sti riding on coil overs. Looks very very nice.

Thanks for the compliments on the car. I've swapped my trunk out for a wingless and have been very happy with it. Basically, as stated above, the trunk, the key lock, and the springs need to be swapped out. Seems to me that there was a nice weight-saving as well. Find someone to trade, unless you want to keep the wing for track-days, should be able to get a little cash out of it as well. Shoot me a PM if you'd like some help or want to see one. I'm up in Acworth and work in Marietta off of Delk Rd.

well currently, they're flex's. If I'd had more funds available it would've been the Cusco 2R's. In my dream world it would be Zeal's.

technically, you don't have to swap the springs. Like Jason said in the above post, they'll just give you more of the "opening powa". I don't know that it's worth bothering with if you went from a winged wrx to wingless (or vice versa). I think it really only matters if you traded a sti trunk for a wingless one.

yeah, but now that i no longer have the wing the trunk opens itself, lol. i just dont want it to damage itself when it shoots up like that.

I read on nasioc a while back about people that had problems with paint cracking or denting becuase of the wingless trunk popping, and I think one guys rear window cracked.

well the trunk still has the bumpstops or whatever so its not too bad, and itll prolly be a massive PITA to replace those torsion springs. im not gonna worry about it i guess, unless there is an easy fix. As far as i know there is no way to adjustion the tension.

Go wingless bro. I went wingless on mine and I love it, it's super clean.

Or better yet, get a CF trunk to go with the hood!!!

I agree with johnnyboy0150 on the CF trunk, would look good. I will say that it is a little easier to clean the car when there's no wing in the back to worry about. Either way both winged and wingless look good, you just have to decide which way you want to go. It's not like your stuck with your decision either. There's pretty much always someone looking to trade trunks.
