So my wife and I came over to Savannah yesterday to meet my parents who were vacationing here and when we got to the place they were staying we parked on the street. Well then it started raining... Really Hard. The next thing I know my passenger side is flooded up to the door sill. I trudge out in the open water (up to almost my knees) and pull/sail it into the adjacent lot where it was more dry. I looked and the drivers and passengers floor boards were dry so I though I escaped with no problem. Not so. When we went out this morning to go eat I opened the rear passenger door to find about 2" of standing water. What a pisser. I have already towled out all that I can and I won't be home until tomorrow afternoon to get the wet/dry vac on it. Any suggestions... I plan on taking out the front seat when I get home vacuuming it out and putting a fan on it. Now I know what street flooding is...

Leave the windows open if you can. My wifes car flooded once and we took it to the dealer because it wouldn't start. They left it in the parking lot with the windows up for a week in 90+ degree weather.

The only way we got rid of the smell was to get rid of the car.

I will get this drying by tomorrow night. I am not going to let it stink up the car.

35th and Drayton. FYI it floods bad at that intersection.

I went and got a desiccant in there to help wick the moisture out of the air and I am running the car with the air on full blast through the foot vents only. Should I run air or heat to help dry it out? I figured the air will help extract the moisture.

Anyone in the Savannah area reading want to help me drill a small hole in the drain plug so I can drain my car? I am leaving tomorrow mid morning. I really want to get this drained before the trip home. Piece of mind.

I was attacking from underneath. It is metal. I thought it was plastic, but that was just the undercoating.

go to a drive thru wash and vacuum place
    use their vacuum

    To get the odor out
    get a deionizer

Im more concern of the long term effects of rusting from the inside out

Rust you think? Is the inside bare metal and not galvanized, primed, or painted? I could possibly peel back the carpet in that area. Anyone have procedures?

A :bigthumb: to Hazzard for getting my holes drilled. It got most of the water out. The stream was amazing.

When I got back home I pulled the interior on te advice of Ped and there was even more water. So I have the carpet in the garage upside down on saw horses with a fan on it. So for the next couple days I will have a single seater race car.

helping out wasn't a problem at all, i am just glad that i checked the forum last night.
it was good to meet you and your wife.
i still can't believe how much water was draining after the holes were drilled.
i hope everything gets dried out successfully.

I just checked it and all is is drying very well. Removing the interior was quite easy also. Thanks again. It was good to be you and your girlfriend even though it was for a whole 15min.

Actually, there is a way to get rid of the smell. I had a 90 CRX that sat at friends house for months. I was over there one nice a sunny day and noticed my windows were all fogged up. I opened the door and it wreaked of mildew smell. It was horrible. Once I got the car back on the road, I drove it for a while and people would commit on a strange smell when I was standing near them. The smell had made it's way into my clothes while riding in the car for 10 minutes to work.

I finally pulled the seats out and removed the carpet. I took the carpet to a coin operated car wash and presure soaked, soaped and rinsed the carpet. I then left it on my apartment railing all day to dry and then installed it back in the car. It looked as good as the day it left the factory and smelled nice and clean again. The seats were never wet so they were fine.

Summary, take the carpet out and go to a coin-operated car wash. Power Soak/ Soap and Rinse then leave out to dry in the sun. Put back in car. Enjoy.
