Hey all, I want to get my up/dp powder coated to try & keep some of the heat from bleeding into my TMIC. Has anyone here used a local shop? Good/bad shops to avoid? More importantly, did you notice a real difference in the heat under the hood? I've heard everything from 100 degree difference all the way to virtually no improvement... I'm guessing there are different types of coatings, & you have to make sure you get one that doesn't transmit heat. (?) Anyway, just looking for something better than reinstalling the heat shields or wrapping my exhaust. Thanks! -Chris!
I had a customer call me the other day. I cant remember his name but i do remember that he powder coats anything. the only thing i have on them is phone # 770-761-3363 i asked him how much it would cost to coat 4 rims and his price was 175, including stripping them.
http://www.millerpowdercoating.com/ Super nice guys, they do powder coating and ceramic coating. They have hooked me up really well in the past. Matt
powder coat isn't going to do anything on exhaust except flake off. you need ceramic coating, sorry I don't kow who does that in our area.
I would have to disagree with that. Powder makers can do some awesome stuff with paint these days, i am sure u can find something to cover it with. Ceramic may not be a good idea for something like a downpipe. remember that ceramics is basically glass although u have to cure it around 3000-4000 F, so it will take the heat, BUT remember that anything that flexes will eventually crack the coating. However with powder, given the right mix, will flex. I will try to remember to call PPG tomorrow and see if they have something for this application.
this place looks awesome. thats where i would go and they have pics of coated headers that they say the coating reduces heat. i used to powder coat but i used powder that started to flow at 400 degrees and that would not work for this application. that was cosmetic type coating like on a fileing cabinet. they do make powders that flow at diff temps. i would go to miller.
Hey guys, thanks for the info! Yeah, I agree, Miller's looks like my best bet. They have picks of coated exhaust bits, and it sounds like they know what they're doing (IE, the difference between a cosmetic coat & a performance coat). I'll give them a buzz in a few weeks & lyk how it turned out. -Thanks! -Chris!
Im going to be sending some stuff off to be ceramic coated in the next week or so, anyone tried this miller place before I ship? Anyone else have stuff you wanna coat while all this mess is shipping?
Awesome, going to miller hopefully next week for the downpipe (1300 deg coating) the Header and up-pipe will be off to performance coatings for the (2000 deg coating, they have a nice selection of color (YEAH RICE! ). http://www.performancecoatings.com/headercoatings.html If anyone has anything they wanna chuck in the box to be shipped or have me drop off to miller let me know.
I want to get my wheels done Just to throw out my $.02, Alex and I have been to Miller and we were extremely impressed. They're about $75 a wheel (for powdercoating purposes, any color). They've also been in business for about 10 years as well.
