Two killed in Carrera gt at track day http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=137794 Lets all remember these are not toys.....
Thats crazy, I cant imagine what ther familys are going thru. I agree with alot of those other guys, They car heldup very well considering the 150mph impact. Does it say what the cause of death was. My guess is the weight of their helmets caused spinal injury. Thats a reminder that no car is a toy. That accident was not even the drivers fault. It could happen any wher to any one so try to be careful guys.
its stories like this that i hate to hear..be safe out there guys whether its on the track or the street
The guy from work that has given me a few rides around Road Atlanta sent me that link and said 'you should think about this'. His wife has been giving him grief over taking folks for rides on the track. My reply was that it could happen going to lunch on the street and it beats a boring death. Would I stick my nephew in the car with him and say 'Go!'? No. But I'll jump in in a heartbeat anyday. Getting in any car is accepting a risk. My risk tolerance is pretty high. Besides if I'm going out I'd rather it be doing something I love than being taken out by a Ford Excurison because the driver was distracted by the cell phone that seems to be glued to everyone in Atlanta's ear as they drive. Actually that brings up another question I have. Who the hell are they talking to? Simply each other? 'Gurl!! ya see that one two lanes over?' It must be one hell of a conference call in this town.
Your right, I was implying they died at the track day, not that anything in particular killed them, I will try to edit the title... As for accepting risk the point of my posting this was simply to remind everyone that wihile we are enjoy driving our cars hard, there can be consequences. Just a reminder to be careful, not a condemnation of track days, the driver of the Carrera, speed, or risk taking....
From what I heard, a car swerved out in front of them and in order to avoid an impact, the driver of the carrera had to swerve as well. He then lost control and slammed into the wall...which apparently moved 6 feet at impact.
Not to sound insensetive, but it's better that it happened on the track than on the street. This is a rather isolated incident compared to the number of people who die or are seriously injured while involved in or innocent bystandards of street racing.
