Just recently, my 2005 LGT with 40K is producing a suspension noise. Upon backing up (from a parking space) with the wheel turned far left, a single clunk is heard from under the front chassis. It doesn't do it when the wheel is to the far right and it seems to only happen when the car has been sitting. Thoughts?
put a glove on your hand and check the axle boots to see if either one of them is cracked. If one is cracked and leaking grease, the axle will clunk when turning. it would be time to replace either the entire axle, or just the boot and some new grease depending on how long it's been going on. A lot of times you can just put a new boot/new grease in and call it a day
I thought you sold it a long time ago? Either way...remember that clunk you had a LONG time ago that was fixed under warranty at SOG? yeah, two other techs spent hours trying to diag that and failed. They ordered control arms that never got installed, as I fixed it w/out the control arms. I took one short drive and knew it just needed to be 'nut and bolted' underneath. After I tightened everything up, it was gone. Its possible that just needs to happen again. I touched every single nut and bolt on the front crossmember/suspension with my 3/8 and 1/2 guns.
Thanks for posting Will. Almost sold her but I still have the Leg. That clunk I had fixed under warranty was the control arm bushings. This sound is distinctly different than before.
I see. No...it wasnt the bushings. It was loose stuff in the crossmember. I remember that day well. I've done the same on at least 10 other L-GT's since yours.
All I know is what Steve told me and what the receipt stated. I believe you... I just didn't know the specifics.
hopefully this wont be a repost from me in 20k...which at the rate i'm going will be 6months..keep us posted on what you find out! thanks!
PM on the way. The 06+ Legacys do not have the problems that the 05's did. More specifically, all the problems with the 05's seem to be on the GT's only. Go figure.
