So I am going out this weekend to get a new car for the wife. I haven't bought from a dealer in GA before. How does the sales tax work with a trade-in vehicle? Is tax calculated on the sale before or after the trade?

I know on private party you pay ZERO sales tax.

    Thanks,

I found out the tax is calculated on the difference, not on the full purchase amount.

I recommend not trading your car in. You will not get what its worth or even close. www.Craigslist.org it for $500-$1000 more then what the dealership offers you because it will at least save you that much money.

Use these sites to determine an accurate trade in value for your car or at least what you can get for, if your were to sell it to someone else. Then you don't have to worry about taxes.
