White Smoke From Under Hood

I've got a problem. If I leave my engine running for more than 5 or 10 minutes a sweetish smelling white smoke starts pouring from under my hood. :eek3: From what I've found on google, it seems like its probably coolant related, but I've only found cases of that kind of smoke coming out of an exhaust. The smoke seems to be coming from somewhere under the air intake near the radiator, and the engine isn't overheating at all so I'm kind of stumped. I just wanted to see if any one had any ideas before I took it in, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am no expert by far, but I would say that is a coolant leak for sure.

Cracked radiator? I'd take the air intake off and do some investigating.

Those radiators are known to leak around the end tanks. If you see it leaking coolant, replace it.

I did some looking and it looks like the upper radiator hose is the problem. The rubber sleeve on the hose that goes under the air intake is ripped and it looks like it's leaking from there. It all started the other day when we had that snow, so I'm guessing the rubber cracked from the cold. If I replace the hose myself do I need to drain the coolant first?

being the upper I would imagine not. Just do not leave a puddle for the neighborhood dogs to lick up.

yes. drain the coolant and do a flush. might as well get some fresh coolant in there. i'd recommend replacing both hoses with some upgraded silicone hoses that wont warp or crack. the samco ones are probly the best choice. and make sure you replace the coolant with the genuine subaru stuff. don't buy junk from autozone

If you need the car asap you can probably cut off the broken part and put the clamp back on. Get the torn hose replaced asap. If you move quick with the car cold you can probably not even spill much...
