Hello All, I am pretty new to the stereo arena, and was wondering what type of system would sound good in my Rex but still have a decent cost. I have the sub-woofer under the passenger seat already and was just going to see if I should maybe get another system that will really kick some butt... Mark
My system ended up costing me about $700 and that's cheap considering I got a discount on my amp and sub. I kept the stock head unit to maintain that stock look and keep the 6 disc in-dash changer. I replaced the front speakers with Infinity Reference components (~$150/pair) and the back speakers with Infinity Reference regular speakers (~$70/pair). Then I got an Infinity 6-ch amp and ran all 4 speakers through the amp and bridged the back two channels for a 10" Infinity Kappa Perfect Sub (really clear and perfect amount of bass). I paid $250 for the amp and the sub (regular is $400 for the amp and $100 or so for the sub), $70 for installation and $70 for the amp wiring kit. I also was able to scrounge up a sub enclosure for $12 until I decide whether or not I want a custom box. This setup is very loud if you want it to be and VERY clear. It's a good mix of all different ranges of sound. My setup is fairly cheap compared to some of the other things I've seen out there.
My system was extremely cheap (50%+ off MSRP), but then again, Ive got a handful of connections to places. HU: Clarion DXZ835MP FR: Infinity 60.5cs RR: Infinity 42.5i Amps: JBL 300.1 / 80.4 Sub: Image Dynamics IDQ10 v.2
i kept the stock head unit, got two 12 inch SX Autotec subs and a 1000 watt Boltamp... my brother had the speakers already, got a friend to build me a box for 20 bucks (for parts: screws, apoxy, beer, etc.), got the amp from another friend for 100, got the line level converter for 25 and the rest of the wires and connections from work for about 20... all in all it cost me about 1/20th what it should have... but if you need any help with the wiring just let me know bud, i'll help if available... oh and the system kicks butt, it is louder (and a heck of alot more stabile) then my friends two fifteens in his truck, they were 450 amps apiece though, where as my twelves are 500 each... i still gotten tighten the trunk up some though... back glass shacks like a mug whenever i turn it up...
plus that way you know that the speakers are gettin the right airflow, if you make the box yourself i mean...

10*4 my stereo is stock because my car is so loud I dont need to listen to the stereo. The only time I cut it on is in the morning on the way to work. I save my money for other things.
Hay what yall think about 2 crossfire bmf's or p1's 12's in the trunk has anybody got that setup or just 12's does anything rattle real bad and how much space yall think would be left
I have a rockford fosgate HU, 150W amped sub under the seat like you. I have Kenwood excelon 6.5 components in front and 5.25 in rear. Quality speakers like that will handle anything a HU can through at them. You could even use decent 4 channel amp with those if you wanted to. However, the system i wanted to have was to go for nice sound and not absolute volume. the sub i have fills in the low frequencies nicely and the speakers are crisp and clear. You don't strike me as a loud bass kinda guy, so i would say keep the sub you have, get some good quality speakers and a new head unit. I would suggest a Pioneer DEH-P80MP. Pioneer has the BEST fm tuners on the market (very helpful when you have an integrated antenna like we have) and that particular HU has a 4 x 27w amp which is about 5 - 10 watts higher than almost any other HU. You can get it online for about 300. Hell...if you don't want to spend that kinda money on a head unit, I'll sell you mine for 1/3d of that so I can go buy one. I'll even install it for you.
this is where i shine, first off if you have the 6 disk in dash as stock keep it. and if the stock speakers are good keep them. i have over 3000 wts in my car ,with one amp,940 x4 . db drive speed or platnum series is the best ive found. one speed series 10 sub is handling 1000 all by itself ,the rest is put through the stock speakers. 1 ten is all u need in the trunk with a sealed box,no banpass. save some money by wireing yourself or form a g2g and ill do it for some beer and peanuts{like the monky's do}hifi sucks,go to a independent ,the can get much better prices and u can build some conections. youwould have to hear mine to beleave it but man ...it sounds so good and only cost 300for everything. i built my own box though
i have infinity kappas on all four corners, components in the front. RF HE 12" sub in the trunk with a closed box. Badass Alpine HU. All powered by RF, loud enough to make your ears bleed and it's crystal clear.
I am still working on installing everything but its comming along. I have the pioneer motorized in dash tv (cant remember the model number) momo 6.5 componets all the way around, a soundstream 4 channel, a jl 500w mono amp. and 2 10inch infinity kappa perfect DVC. Just need to figure out how I want to put the subs in the trunk. all this cost me right around $1000 (thats with knowing people in good places). System sounds great though, infinity has never treated me wrong
