Alright guys i went to get emissions on my 02 wrx i jsut bought and i passed everything but the OBD rediness. The only mods it has is a pulley, and gutted up pipe. I dont see these hurting the emissions or the OBD. However i installed a system last night and had the battery unplugged for a significant amount of time which i think reset the computer. I didnt drive the car to work or since i installed it so i am pretty sure this is why i failed the obd rediness. What do you guys think? i wanna make sure its nothing major. Also if i put a BOV on will it effect my emissions? i know thats a newb ? but i am not familiar with turbos and emissions hehe. SOrry! thanks alot for any help!
If you failed based on 'readiness' just drive more. Just means the computer hasn't had a chance to declare itself happy...
once you reset the ECU you have to take it thru a drive cycle in order for the obd2 port to be ready for testing.
Well, it depends. Unless your emissions place can handle AWD, all you have to worry about is setting OBD-II codes which most(all?) of the engine management systems can handle.
all my place did is plug in the ecu and read the gas tank. BTW whats the drive cycle mileage on these cars?
I shot myself in the foot on my emmissions. I checked for codes with the AP (there weren't any) and then without thinking did a reset. Failed for the same reason. No history in the ecu. Man I felt dumb. The guy said to drive it 50 - 100 miles. So I took off and went on a big loop of some of my favorite roads and returned. About 80 miles. Had history. Passed.
all obdII cars perform a plug and play test. so no 2 speed dyno tests for modern cars. the rediness test is for the o2 sensors and catlysts. like its stated above, just drive it for awhile and you'll be fine. it will set faster if you get on the highway and hold it STEADY at about 3000 rpm for a couple miles.
My step sister's boyfriend runs an emissisons shop. Now, I'm not saying the guy is dumb, but I am saying that the WRX's are sorta a rarity in the whole "let's go get our honda to pass emissions" spectrum. With no cats on my car, I asked him to see if it would pass. We turned it on, let it idle, he looked under the car, and I swear said "looks like you still have a cat". I sort of just nodded my head. I believe he was referring to the resonator in the rear exhaust piping :hs: . You can smell the richness of my car, even on the stock axelback, yet he assured me it would pass with flying colors. Now, back to the thread heh, sorry to hear about you failing mate, just give it another go.
^^^some people just have no clue hahaha........btw i found out that my ride had a lot more mods than i thought on it. It has sti injectors, big brake kit, new struts springs, wheels/tires, boost gauge, bov and sway bars and minor things like bolt ons. I hope none of these could have casued a serious problem that will affect the car later on.
BOV didn't have any emissions related effects on my WRX. '96 and up vehicles are not dyno tested for 5 gas emissions, only codes and readiness moniters, that's the entire purose of OBD II.
I had a TXS BOV that didn't set any codes. Only '95 and back cars are 5 gas dyno tested. AWD vehicles that are pre-'96 are gas checked using the two speed idle method, they are exempt. '96 and up are plugged in to check for codes and the readiness monitors. They typically reset faster with grandma style driving with long slow decels. If your near the area of Shallowford and Sandy Plains stop in to Tires Plus and I can hook up and check your monitors so you don't waste your 1 free retest. No charge and takes all of 2 minutes. This is my last week at this dump.
