As the title states, I think my OEM turbo is toast at 50k :wtc: I get the white smoke at startup and it burns oil like it's going out of style. The coolant levels are always fine though. The compression test on the engine came back good so at least it's not time for a new motor. I can pour oil out of the intake pipes but it's not coming from the crank vent as far as i can tell.

I was looking at getting a td06-20g from deadbolt (talk about having your time frame moved up) but was curious if there is anything else i need to check or have looked at that could be a problem down the road as a result of the turbo asploding.

If you know of some one with a Legacy or STi/wrx style TD06-20g that is looking to sell let me know too :)

so will, is there anything i should check before going to the 20g? I assume it just cruds up the cat but besides that it should be fine right?

Make sure you've got good oil pressure to the turbo.

testing this how? Even at idle the turbo needs oil so i would be nervous to put a gauge in line to the oil line...

You can get a universal gauge and some adapters, install it at the turbo. This is for diagnostics only.

In theory all you need is 35psi to turbo from 2000rpm and up. I dont know what the OE specs are as the FSM doesnt tell us. Otherwise as long as you have the same pressure there as at the main galley from idle to 1500 then its all good. 1500~2000 it should get to 35 and stay there...I think.

I've never done this so I couldnt tell you exact numbers...but again, the theory is 35 is all you need.

and the gauge shouldn't cause a significant flow restriction since it's only idling? ok, i'll poke around some with this. Thanks man

No, its just a port that reads pressure. Nothing flows 'thru' it so to speak.

I already bought a 20g, sorry if i forgot to post up. I'm waiting on the turbo from deadbolt and then i'll pull the stocker and see if the banjo bolt is clogged. I believe it was dan @ deadbolt who was saying these turbos blow the seal with out too much trouble that that is usually the cause of the failure. He'll be looking at the stocker when i send it in so we'll see i guess.
