The Energy Department expects retail gas prices to peak near $3.50 a gallon later in the spring, though that forecast is expected to be revised Tuesday. Many analysts see prices peaking closer to $4 a gallon:eek3::wtc::eek:hnoes::eek4::ky::eek2:.

I believe when they publicize these forcasts, they are referring to the price of 87 Oct, which means we get to look forward to an additional $0.50 or so usually.

nicad Yes I am a troll

not really sure what is driving the futures market up for this. gas demand has dropped steadily since july 2007. even big oil doesnt know why its just a bullish market.

stupid speculators. oh, and claiming that gas will be "4/gal by summer" is self fulfilling. When consumers expect a price of a good to be X dollars, suppliers will raise accordingly to meet consumer expectation.

Diesel is $4.05+most places a gal. cali is dam near $5+ you would pass out at the pump if you fueled my truck. the trip in the ambulance and to get treated would cost less.. without insurance. sad thing thats its putting lots of owner operators out of business.

Switched to Shell V-Powa! after protune.... "The Seigel" doesn't like QT or BP(what I usually run) and says Shell and Chevron are a lot better... Its only 5 cents more per gallon, so I'm gonna just trust his judgement... As far as the ethanol concern, there is a sticker that says only 87 octane has the ethanol. I'm guessing 95% of us are running premium and are not affected.... oh yeah, $3.55 this am.. ouch!

i remeber SS told me he liked QT and didnt like shell?

^^ He said he liked QT up until about a year ago... don't remember what he said changed (hopefully he'll chime in, don't want to speak for him). He even went so far as to say the QT gas I had in there was limiting my tune, and if I had been running Shell, more horse and torque were possible...

QT gas is fine because it has no ethanol... yet.

I work at QT. In the e-mail they send out to each store computer, they said that we WILL be adding 10% ethanol very soon. It is because cars made form 1970ish and up where purposefully built to be able to run on a mix of 10% ethanol.

It actually is added to help keep gas prices slightly lower than they already are since it's a small mix. But it does worsen gas mileage and it does lower performance if you are not tuned for it.

id rather have a 10% increase in gas prices than 10% decrease in gas mileage.

some of the "demands" that's not recorded are the purchases for the Govt oil reserves which are sub 80% and they insist that they be 100%. That's one of the factors driving the price up. And the big oil companies are full of shit. they know exactly why prices move. that's like a car dealer saying "i just dunno why i'm selling this car for 40K instead of 35K..."

The govt oil reserves are intended to run the entire country for 60 or 90+ days (can't remember which it is). What I can tell you is that if we can't secure oil within the first 30 days, we would be under siege (as a country), at which point we start turning entire countries into parking lots. So I don't see the need for 90 days supply.

Big oil wants to drill and exploit domestically but there are so many Government regulations and restrictions it is not financially profitable. The same goes for building more refineries domestically. It is a stale mate between big government and big oil. In the meantime our not so good buddies in the United Arab Emerates and Iraq amongst other nations are perfectly happy to exploit our dilemma. Not only are they not producing more oil so the price goes up they are investing as share holders in American oil companies who by and large are still seeing some of the highest profits in history. The US is butt-Fk4ng itself especially the public who is kept distracted and stupid by main stream media. Most Americans don't not even realize that their rights, jobs and monetary control are being swiped from right under their noses every day.

If Americans don’t get their heads out of their asses, instead of paying attention to why Brittney Spears is on her 10th visit to rehab for the year, or why some ignorant rapper got his head blown off and start paying attention the rest of the world! You may find yourself adjusting to Sharia Law or taking a crash course in Mandarin Chinese some time soon. If you don’t think this is real, think again because it is happening right now and they won’t have to fire not one stinking bullet to pull it off!
