Well i have a P0731 CEL. On my automatic trans. The thing is I am only using a IPT High Stall Torque convertor. I did not get it installed at IPT but I got it installed at a local trans shop. Should i just take it back to them and see what is up? I know that the AT OIL Temp comes on and then the trans goes into a safe mode where it shifts hard and at approximately 3300 rpms. This happened to me once but I went on "ondemand05" and did some procedures in this area which was un plug the TCM for 2-5 mins and then taking out the power from the battery as well as unplugging the #13 fuse in the car. After doing this, i drove it and still gave me problems. So i didn't drive my car for like a whole day and when i went back in to drive it it was fine. Now its doing it to me again so. I am going to bring it in that trans shop again to take a look. If all else fails, Ill stick back the stock torque convertor. 2002 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS Automatic Kp
No clue. I used to have a 4EAT with a Protorque TC and never had any issues like that with it. Does the AT Oil temp light blink at all? There's a sequence to decode blinking MILs that should give you greater insight into the problem, I'm going to dig around and find the procedure for it.
Try this, this is an old-school diagnostic procedure from before the days of OBD but it still works on newer cars: 1) Warm up the engine 2) Turn the ignition switch OFF 3) Turn the ignition switch ON 4) Start the engine 5) Drive the vehicle at speeds greater than 12 MPH 6) Stop the vehicle 7) Depress the brake pedal and move the gear selector to "1" 8) Turn the ignition switch to OFF 9) Turn the ignition switch to ON 10) Move the gear selector to "2" 11) Move the gear selector to "1" 12) Move the gear selector to "2" 13) Move the gear selector to "3" 14) Move the gear selector to "D" Now examine the AT Oil Temp light again: If the light's blinking 4 times a second, then the problem is most likely a power supply or ground problem. If the light's blinking 2 times a second, then the TCM believes all is normal. If the light's on solid or not on at all, then there's a problem with the light's circuit. If the light's blinking with one or more long (1.2 sec) pulses, followed by one or more short (.2 sec) pulses followed by a 1.5 sec pause, then you're seeing a TCM diagnostic trouble code (DTC). The long pulses indicate "tens" and the short ones indicate "ones" so you add up the number of long pulses to get the left digit of the DTC and you add up the number of short pulses to get the right digit of the DTC. DTCs are two digits long (e.g. 23, 36, etc.). The end of the "ones" is indicated by a 1.5 second pause. Then, if that is the only DTC stored, it begins repeating that DTC with the "tens" again. However, there may be more than just one DTC stored, in which case they are spit out sequentially with 1.5 sec pauses between them, until the whole sequence repeats again. If you can decipher a DTC using this method post it up here and I'll run it through my service manuals if you dont have a set of your own downloaded or in hard copy.
okay so i went to auto zone and they narrowed it down more for me. they scanned it and gave me a recipt which said, "Check TCM for Service Codes" or "Transmission mechanical Fault" Do any one know what that means?
dood stall is definately too high, he's got an aftermarket TC. Again, I had a 4100rpm stall speed Protorque TC and it never once threw any codes like that. If it isnt locking like WJM said there's a TC lock mod you can do to electronically force the TC to lock up, it might kill your tranny though. I know the previous owner of my car was the first guy to do the mod and eventually the 4EAT failed but he did say he picked up a few 10ths at the strip locking it up after launch. I got back my car at the trans shop. THey didn't do anything to it. When it was there it was working fine...but now for me, i took back home drove it for less than a day and then it acts up. When it was there they scanned the car and no codes showed up...crazy huh....i dont know what it is..
