It was definitely the right decision, but at the same time it really pisses me off. Free cars ftw! I've always wanted a vehicle that I don't give a shit about and thus can treat like complete crap.
Ya, its a pretty crazy story, in Wired a couple months ago they covered how the ship was salvaged. Someone died trying to save those cars, here is the link to the Wired article: http://www.wired.com/science/discoveries/magazine/16-03/ff_seacowboys
Thats farking retarded. They should have given them to tech schools, under the stipulation that they won't let them get to the general public. Atleast they are being recycled though, right?
Man, so many of those parts could have been reused - like the wheels... how much money and energy is wasted on slashing wheels, crushing, melting, and making new wheels from them? It wouldn't have been that difficult to assess what could have been damaged by the grade and the sea air and what wouldn't. If they're worried that a few weeks at sea is going to damage the metal, then remind me not to ever own a mazda and bring it anywhere near the coast lol.
Its appropriate. Those cars, if damaged by sea air and angle of dangle, would be worthless to an auto tech class. You learn the wrong things....which those places already have lemon cars that you learn the wrong things on anyhow.
they could have gave them to wrxatlanta. we could have had the demalition derby of a lifetime. how fun would that be!
