H6 rear disc upgrade?

I'm in the process of sorting things out for a brake system overhaul and got thinking about doing the H6 rotor at the same time. What's everyone's opinion on it?

I was going to replace all of the rotors anyways and dont really need slotted or drilled rotors. I was thinking Brembo blanks for the front and H6s for the rear. Hawk HP+ pads in the front and HPS in the rear (mine should still have life left in them). Then topping it all off with SS lines and ATE fluid all around.

    Thanks for the input.

I believe the consensus is do it, I'm planning on doing it sometime later this year as well. Let me know how it goes and what all you ordered for it!

26625AE000: $54.12 Outback rear caliper bracket (need two)
26700AE04A: $66.36 Outback rear rotor (need two)
    Total cost = 240.96

You retain your stock rear pads, just swap rotors and caliper brackets and then have to hammer a dust shield out of the way, or remove it.

There's a thread on nasioc about 04+ WRXs having to use 03 WRX rear pads to make it work so you might need to prepare for that.

I drilled out the spot welds and removed them. If you decide to get the 2 pot rears and the bracket adapter, you'll need to remove them anyway.

I'd say go for it, but realize it's a solid rotor, not vaned

So it'll retain more heat then? I'm not planning on tracking the car anytime soon. I'm going to try to hit up the occasional autox this summer but otherwise just have a solid ride on the street.

I have some vented rear rotors if you are interested. They will fit without having to modify the dust shields

veined rears are too thick IIRC. 13mm versus 10mm. you shouldnt have a problem with the solid rears. those with a good set of pads, lines and fluid will be GREEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTT

Yes, they are thicker, but the added thickness is on the opposite side from the dust shield. So they will fit without modification - I test-fitted them just to be sure.

However, this means you need new calipers too, which I also have.

It sounds like for GTscoob, vented rears might not be necessary anyway

Try cheap H6 rear rotors from autozone. They hold up just good as other OEMs.

    Info:

    If you have an 02/early 03 w/ D770 rear brakes -

You need the brackets and larger rotors.

    If you have a late 03-05 -
You need the brackets, rotors, new pad clips and D770 pads (vs D1004)

It is still a solid rotor - but about an inch bigger. The benefit is supposedly primarily in bias adjustment - gaining rear brake torque - however - w/ HP+ front/HPS rear you are tossing that out.

The LGT rears are the same diameter - but utilize a vented rear rotor and wider caliper still using the D770 pad shape. I believe that is bolt on as well.

Ideally I'd be going HP+ all around but I've got a feeling that when I pull the rear pads they'll still have a lot of life on them, whereas the fronts are pretty worn.

There were HUGE debates on this mod on NASIOC when people first started doing it. Consensus ended up that they were not a worth while track mod, but for street driving/looks, there might be a marginal increase in braking power and better braking bias...

Yeah, I've read the thread, thats why I came on here asking for some personal experience. I need new discs anyways so I think I'm going to go through with this since it costs marginally more than new rear discs.
