does S mean it's the sport wagon 2.2L version so it is AWD. and if the car has the 1.8L motor then it's automatically FWD? i wouldn't mind doing a V2 wrx wagon clone for a daily driver on the cheap
If you are going to swap it, then it really doesnt matter if its AWD or not. You can very easily convert it to AWD. You just need to get all the parts needed. As for the "S" I dont have a clue...I never kept up with the L/LS/LSi/LX/LXi/S/SX/etc etc etc how ever many trim levels there are.
I never heard of an S trim model. but like Will stated, if you are gonna swap it, you will be getting 95% of the AWD drivetrain parts for the car anyway, so it matters not
