Yesterday morning i got in the car, ejected the current cd and when i went to put in a new cd it only went in about half way and said error, and when i pushed eject, it came out and kept making this weird grinding noise....Im not really worried about it but i had a few questions. I have a sony head that i pulled from my 240sx when i went to get a new panasonic so im planning on putting that in this weekend, my questions are as follows....

    1. Will removing the factory headunit affect my keyless entry system?
    2. Will i be able to hook up the window antenna to the sony head?
    3. How the hell do i take out the factory cd player?
    4. Is it hard to straight wire a headunit without buying a Subaru radio harness?
*Bonus*: Any other advice is more than welcome....

    Thank you for your time...:sx:

Is it the factory 6-disc? If so those are junk IMO. I had CDs in mine and pulled the power and when it was reconnected all my CDs were stuck in the player. I had to pull apart the whole thing to get them back out. Looked online and it was a common problem.

BUY THE HARNESS! You will regret it if you dont. Makes installing a 20-30 minute job. You will also need to buy a pocket from Subaru if you have the double din 6 disc player. Look on NASIOC for the factory service manual. It will show you how to take the radio out.

You can find the harness on ebay for like $1.00 plus shipping or Fry's has them in stock. Also, SVXDC is local and he has them in stock as well.

    1.) No
2.) Yes- to the blue wire on the head unit (not the blue/white)
3.) pretty easily, there are two screws on either side of the cup holder, once removed the vents above the radio will pop out. Then you can pop off the panel around the radio without scratching it. There are four screws holding the radio in the dash.
4.) DO NOT CUT THAT HARNESS! lol

Ohhh, definitely not cutting ANYTHING.....and its the factory single disc, so i already have the tray. But i was gonna see if i could push the wires into the harness piece. I did this on another car with some little spiked metal clips...

don't know if you have done the harness thing yet, but i replaced my whole system last year...everything! Crutchfield actually sells harness interfaces that work very well. You specify your new head unit and the vehicle into which it is going. As long as they sell your head unit, you should be able to get a harness interface. Works great...and no, I don't work for Crutchfield! ;)
