I am getting ready to upgrade my 04WRX to the 2.5 block and wanted opinions from people who have done the swap. How does the car feel after, big gains or moderate? Were you smiling from ear to ear or just a mild grin?
We have done a lot of the hybrid motor swaps. The added torque and spool up in great. Make sure you have the Turbo, Uppipe, Downpipe, Exhaust, Engine management situated. If you have any questions let me know. I'd be happy to assist you with your project. Tray M
I think it also opens up a whole new world as far as turbos are concerned. You now have 25% more exhaust gas that means bigger turbos and more hp!
Thanks for the reply. Are you seeing torque gains up top also or just at lower rpms? I also heard I should expect to spool faster.
Going from a 2.0 to a 2.5 with the same turbo I saw and increase of 75 ft lbs of torque but only a 25 whp gain. It spooled about a 1k rpms sooner. The power also dropped off about 1k sooner due to the turbo being too small and the wrx heads too restrictive. I wouldn't do the swap without at least putting sti cams in. Once I did the heads on my car it actually made power all the way to redline.
Thank you, that was exactly the information I was looking for. Which intercooler were you running. The top mount or had you gone to the front? I will be switching to the STi topmount at the time of the swap.
Depending on what turbo you do with that may or may not do you any good What are your plans for turbo?
