Your FMIC is at ambient, that TMIC is at 150-200F. Your FMIC is twice the size of the TMIC = twice the time to cool the air...

I think everybody on here knows that I don't make a DOLLAR (not a single solitary $1.00, not even any cents) on selling parts. I have never suggested or put down a part for any reason other than my OBSERVED performance...

If I suggest it, it's because I believe it works well. If I speak against it, it's because I believe it doesn't. I'm open minded, but for me, it all comes down to REAL WORLD OBSERVED performance. I have seen too many times that cars with Ebay TMIC's would not run as much timing as cars with brand name TMIC's. I have often stated that the SSAC FMIC is not a bad piece for the money; the TMIC's are another story IMHO.

I still rant about people that open a "speed shop" in their mom's basements and charge no markup on NAME BRAND products. That's a totally different rant than the just disliking cheap parts. You get what you pay for.

I just want to chime in and say this......Can everyone just leave Scott's name out of this when they talk about Ebay TMIC's? I've been guilty of doing it but Scott has personally shown me charts a while back of cars that were identically setup name for name and brand for brand on everything except the TMIC. All the name brand parts like TurboXS, Perrin, Spearco, APS ran a degree or even more timing than the Ebay TMIC. Even showed me where he tried to run more timing and it knocked so he had to turn it back down.

That's proof enough.

For the average everyday joe the Ebay TMIC is perfect. But for HP junkie like me that like to squeeze every freaking ounce of power I can out of the current setup.....it's not.

Keep LOLing. When the speedshops do suffer or fall, and you need a protune, I'm sure those guys from ebay can hook you up with a cheap downloadable tune that will have your car full of bargain parts running like a champ.

I've been building computers for a long time, as well as other things, and as a dentist I have to explain this regularly to people who like to "shop around" for a deal on their own freaking teeth. Then I have people asking me for help because the computer they built with cheap parts won't run right. The truth is when it comes to performance in any field, you get what you pay for.

Some in here are so quick to flame SS for recommending quality parts. He's not putting a gun to anyone's head, you can buy what you want. But for someone in his position, and for someone who's a perfectionist, which I totally understand, why would he not be biased toward performance?

Have differences in opinion without making it personal or jeuvenile for chrissake.

 

this is gross simplification and a strawman argument. if there is enough demand for this service, and the market will bear it they will remain in business. it's that simple. if a speed shop goes under it is their own fault and can be due to a number of reasons. don't place blame on the consumers of a good/service.

 

Yours is just as much a simplification. Look at upstate NY, it used to be towns supported by factories. Now they're gone. They can't compete with other countries where factories work laborers for peanuts.

Consumers absolutely do need to think about what they buy, and why it may be so cheap. Otherwise it's buy cheap now, pay later. Likewise some companies get too greedy and pay the price. If everyone did more thinking, we wouldn't have so much trouble.

To go with your building computers analogy, if I can order from TigerDirect.com and pay half price of retail stores in the area to build my computer with the same parts...well, kind of stupid to pay the extra money I would think. I can understand if you feel one part does a better part than others. However, I do believe that when the choice to spend $1200 is on an intercooler or $200 on an intercooler, then pay for a good quality tune, some injectors and possibly a turbo for the same $1200. I would rather cheap out a bit on the intercooler and loose 10 hp but still make 80hp more vs having a REALLY NICE intercooler but not being able to afford a tune or turbo or injectors and only making 10 more hp.

I think what sometimes is forgotten is that some people DO have a budget and CAN'T spend $10,000 on upgrades. If I can get a turbo, an intercooler, modd some stockers and get a good quality tune rather than having the latest greatest intercooler...well I think for the money I will come out ahead in the HP game not picking the $1200 intercooler.

 

Oh, I go back and forth Newegg is probably used more I guess, but it just depends on what specials everyone is having
