    car- 03 legacy wagon

question- how hard would it be to turbo the stock motor? Would i be able to use stock turbo, dp, and top mount from an sti/wrx?

Or would it be easier to buy a turbo motor swap?

I want to make about 250 to the wheels. Which direction should i go. and also the car is an auto slush box.

    Yeah, that.

Look for a stock 2.5L wrx motor and turbo. With a good tune and the right parts 250whp isn't impossible at all.

Or you can buy a turbokit off rs25.com forums and do 5lbs of boost to get you there. There are kits for <$1500

They dont hold up very well.... as far as i know at least
Its the consensus that you buy a new turbo motor.

I don't know how many people have put a turbo on an N/A motor because there is such a ready supply of turbo motors. They really are completely different internals and with a turbo motor, plus Engine Management is all already done for you!

If you want to save a leetle bit of $$ you could look for a WRX 2.0 and put a VF 39 on it from an STi. With all the right add ons (Full exhaust and a tune) 250 whp should not be hard at all.

This may be overkill but it may actually turn out to be cheaper. You might want to trade the Legacy auto for a used WRX wagon, Sedan or even an Sti. If you start off with a turbo/5sp platform your options will be vast and actually allot cheaper.

i thought about that too, i just dont really care much about the looks of the impreza wagon. im loving the legacy. i think i might try see if i can find a jdm legacy gt wiring harness. and use a wrx motor and just upgrade the turbo and tmic.

If you like the legacy I say stick with it. Just be prepared for a few more headaches and some additional costs. You could go with a JDM 2.0 and hit your goals pretty easily. If you were to find a 2.5 motor it would be easier still.

You could always get a sti short block and build it.

If your looking to avoid paying five grand for a motor and tranny you may not want to do a motor and tranny.
